Show & Tell / Bleed proof white.
« on: March 19, 2017, 02:06:00 PM »
I decided to buy some bleed proof white to see what it's like, after getting to grips with my consistency issues, at first my hairlines didn't show, and adding more water, I kind of like it now, I think I will use it again on other things, it was fun to try something new, and experiment too on this.
It turned out ok in the end thankfully..... phew  🙂

Show & Tell / Walnut ink practice
« on: March 01, 2017, 10:13:40 AM »
I am loving the walnut ink, love the variations in shade, and also the feel, I didn't get to messy mixing it, which is a Bonus, and Andy T thank you for the ratio advice and everything, I think I have mixed it correctly.
I found two things, firstly make sure your nib is correctly primed, ot the ink slips off, plus you dip more often, but neither are an issue, and I have enough ink to be going on with.
Oh also it shows up flaws in my script which is what I wanted, so this means now I can look at those and correct them.
so here is my walnut ink practice, warts and all....
I will keep this, then check back after a week of writing to see if I have managed to correct my issues.
Have a great day  :)

Hi everyone, sorry if this is in the wrong place.
I'm looking for a calligraphy book, and wondered if anyone owns this book, if so do you like it, also can I get this particular book in the UK.
It's probably a very long shot, but I wanted to hopefully buy mitt in England.
Thank you for any help, I'm looking for the book isbn number to try and order it here.

Tools & Supplies / Atlast my holder arrived woohoooo.
« on: February 25, 2017, 01:48:47 PM »
My OH ordered me a new nib holder, and I am extremely happy because it holds everything from my Brause EF66 up to my vintage nibs and my G nibs.
Someone come find me if I don#t reappear, because I will be playing.
Its from Russia ARMpen's holder, matt black and sleek . PLain but I wanted something plain this time.
What do you think ? :)

I wondered if I might ask a question ? Hope I posted in the right section ?
I write Engrossers script, and my favourite nibs are the Nikko G, Zebra G and the Baignol & Farjon Incomparable nibs.
I do change nibs when I feel I must, but how long can you use a nib for, I mean, Is there an obvious sign that my nib is ready for the trash ?
After changing nibs I then think, "Erm, can I get a few more days/weeks out of the nib, then I feel wasteful ?
I am most probably being silly worrying about a nib, But I do feel bad for wasting whatever could be left in the nib.
Many thanks for ant replies, you advice is very welcome.
Take Care

Introductions / Hi Everyone
« on: February 12, 2017, 06:25:57 AM »
Hi, I'm Sarah, and have been trying to learn Pointed pen, for around 7 months.
At first I didn't care for dip pens, but after persisting I use one more than I do anything else.
I'm very much enjoying it, although frustration takes over at time, I want to throw my pen out the window, ( I haven't yet )....
At the moment I am experimenting with Finetec, inks and Gouache, and encouraged by some awesome Calligraphers, who keep me o the right track, and help me along the way.
I have lurked on the forum for a while, reading, but thought I would be brave and say hello x
