Kind Critique / Feedback Please
« on: June 07, 2016, 07:42:35 PM »
I did this for a friend who has just lost a horse - it doesn't quite fit on the scanner so the left side is cut off. I'd appreciate any comments and suggestions for improvement. Thanks!

Tools & Supplies / Ultrasonic cleaners
« on: May 19, 2016, 09:27:03 AM »
I know this is a really basic question but are you just using the jewelry cleaners that can be found on Amazon for about $30? If so, do you use the detergents that come with them or just tap water? If just tap water, does it matter that I have acidic well water that includes whatever stuff comes up out of the ground? I'm having a lot of trouble with uneven ink flow from my Rotring Artpens and wonder if I'm not getting the nibs clean enough just rinsing in the sink.

There seem to be a number of options for pointed pen online learning but I am not finding much for broad edge. I am looking to improve my rusty chancery cursive style but can only find a few online tutorials. There are things I can learn easily from books and tutorials but artwork isn't one: I need direction, motivation and feedback. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Introductions / Hi from Virginia
« on: November 20, 2015, 04:56:30 PM »
I lurked for several weeks before joining Flourish Forum and have lurked for several more since. I guess it's time to say something.

I started with a broad edge pen in 4th grade a very long time ago. We were told it was called "Beacon" handwriting and when I was in high school a professional scribe told me I had a Chancery Cursive hand. Having never heard the term I had to look it up. I laugh now over the current controversy of whether children should learn cursive writing because I was never taught it. We either printed or used a calligraphy pen. We started with dip pens and were awarded an Osmiroid fountain pen after we had achieved a certain level of proficiency. Unfortunately, I pretty much stopped after high school and the Osmiroid is long gone. I'm not sure why but I suddenly have an overwhelming desire to write again. As you might imagine, I am *very* rusty but hope to get back into it. I'm not very good at staying motivated all by myself so I am looking to everyone here for inspiration. :)
