When I turned on my computer yesterday, I got the following error message:

Guess you can tell that I found a way to keep busy while it was being fixed.  :)

Since you're from the Netherlands, it is safe to assume that you speak Dutch, so –

Hartelijk welkom bij de Flourish Forum. Ik hoop dat u zal sterk worden geďnspireerd door de getalenteerde mensen hier.

Oh, and please feel free to correct my Dutch if the grammar is somewhat off  :)

Sylvia, thank you for the updates. Like the others who have posted before me, I am saddened to learn of Carina's accident. However, if she applies the indomitable spirit and energy that she has shown on the forum to the process of healing, I am sure that she will recover soon.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, and I look forward to the day Carina returns.

Contemporary and Modern Calligraphy / Re: A Couple Questions
« on: March 13, 2016, 03:12:05 AM »
Hi and welcome. I am sure other will be able to give you even better advice, but on the wrist movement question I would suggest that you avoid keeping your elbow too close to your upper body. When your elbow is against your body it limits the mobility of your forearm.

Try positioning your paper slightly to the right (if you are right-handed) rather than directly in front of you – this should help to give your arm room to move. As an alternative, rotate your hand slightly to move your elbow away from your body.

Hope this helps  ;)

I have noticed definite improvements in my everyday handwriting – greater consistency in letter shapes and slant. But it deteriorates rapidly the faster I write.

Let your first welcome message be from a fellow South African. I hope you have a blast here – there is certainly lots to learn from the very talented people on this forum.

Ellen, I ordered it from JNB & got notice that they were delayed in shipping it.  I'll report back once I finally receive it!

Janis

Please do. I owned a 21st edition (mid-eighties), which is what I used to teach myself calligraphy. Having long since misplaced it, I would be interested in replacing it with the new edition if it's worth it.

Coffee & Nib-bles / Re: Does everybody speak english?

What discouraged me the most is there are so many dialects and strongly different accents.

True that – while I can read and (to a lesser extent) speak Dutch, I find spoken Dutch hard to understand.

The reason I learned english is I didn't like learning Dutch... wich is the second (well, it's actually the first, but I'm a french speaker...) language in Belgium.

Pity you don't speak Flemish – my home language is Afrikaans, which is quite similar. We could have had all kinds of secret conversations  ;)

Your natural language is Afrikaans? Say something, please. Like; I speack Afrikaans. You are awesome. You are smart. You are the best in the world.

Ek praat Afrikaans. Jy is ongelooflik. Jy is slim. Jy is die beste in die węreld!  :D

I am as shocked and dismayed by this as everybody else. I am very sorry that you had to go through such a traumatic experience, and I hope the clerk suffers more serious consequences than just a slap on the wrist.
