Tools & Supplies / Blackwell v. Bullock

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if I could pick yawls minds on blackwell adjustable flange vs bullock adjustable flange. Pros and cons of either one? Why one would choose one over the other? Your preference perhaps?

I have a Heebs holder  ;D with a bullock and love it but was also curious about the blackwell.

Thank you all for your thoughts, in advance!!!

Tools & Supplies / Re: Recommendation: Steel ball for mixing inks

Hi everyone!

I recently bought 10 of these said silver balls for less than $2 total. You can easily find them at your local hardware stores (I went to Ace). Just ask for ball bearings. They come in so many different sizes. I just grabbed the smallest ones.

I use them for my Dr. PH Martin copper plate gold. Works like a charm!

Introductions / Hello from Rhode Island!

Hello everyone! My name is Kay and I am a wife, a momma to my 16 month old son, and a new student of copperplate calligraphy. I've been learning pointed pen calligraphy (self-teaching, but with the help and mentoring of a few far more experienced and talented calligraphers) for a little less than two months. Growing up, I was always intrigued by pointed/dip pen calligraphy but never really felt the desire to learn until just recently. Boy, am I glad I've started because I have been loving every minute of it!!

The warm and encouraging calligraphy community on Instagram has been key in keeping me motivated and excited to pick my pen up everyday and practice. I absolutely enjoy admiring everyone's work they post on there and truly appreciate the other artists I've met.

I'm also very thankful for this forum!! I must admit, I've been a member since October and am just getting around to writing my introduction..whoops! Sorry... But since Oct, I have found myself running to the flourish forum to look for answers to JV questions I've had as a newbie and ALWAYS find an answer. I'm ecstatic to join you all here and look forward to becoming a more active and present member.

Happy dipping!
