How do you store and organize your supplies?
« on: December 27, 2013, 11:01:19 PM »
I'm looking for inspiration on how to store my supplies. I have limited space and curious toddlers running around.

I have a little shelf on my desk which I use to store ink and things, nothing special. But I would have loved one of these little cubby holes!
As for nibs, I have a little dressmakers doll and corkboard which I use to just stick pins through the nibs on.
As for papers and loose sheets, I just have a regular metal file cabinet.

Oh my word!  ;D That dressmaker is the BEST! I LOVE it!

I use a little drawer thing I bought in the hardware section of either Home Depot or Lowes. It wasn't expensive and works great! The drawers are clear so I just put a label on it. I can't find mine right now  :o (it's in a box not unpacked) so here is a photo of basically what it looks like. Mine is about half this size.

Warm Regards,

Also, I would look in the food container section for those click on covered containers! Kids can't get them open and they come in smaller sizes, too.

Great ideas, thanks! I think I.m going to try some type of container with compartments to separate the nibs.

If you don't have a ton of nibs, a flat compartmentalized plastic box like this might work well:  http://www.planostoragesolutions.com/products/184-3700-adjustable-compartment-pro-latch-stowaway.aspx.

They're only a few bucks and the compartment size can be customized. I don't have enough nibs to need one yet, but I do have some around for storing other items, and they're pretty handy.

If you are an organized type.
Joann's Fabrics has a flat plastic divider box that is just the right size for the small and medium size nibs.
If you have LONG nibs (Falcon, bowl, etc), then Michaels has a taller divider box.
I prefer the one from Joann's Fabric, as it is not as deep, so it is easier to get the nibs out.

This is what I use for my fountain and dip pen supplies.

It can roll around, so easy to move.
But the drawers are not full suspension, so do be careful if you put heavy stuff into the drawers.

During last year's black friday sale at Jo-Ann's I picked up one of these Organizing Essentials Craft Cart for $35 and it's been one my favorite ways to keep organized. I would love for it to be out of a sturdier material but I can't complain for the price and flexibility. It keeps both my calligraphy and bookbinding tools.

I do, however, need to figure out a better way to organize my nibs.

I just picked up one of these boxes at Daiso and it's perfect for nibs. The sides aren't straight down, they are slightly curved, so you can retrieve the nibs pretty easily. The compartment walls also go all the way up and touch the lid, so when the lid closes, they really are kept apart, unlike some of the boxes where if you accidentally turn them upside down, everything gets mixed up again.

Gotta love Daiso - $1.50 for almost everything in the store.

I love Daiso! I have the same things - I think mine are actually designed to hold false eyelashes, but they're the perfect size :)

Everything is $2.80 in Australian Daiso though.  Curse you, exchange rate!
