Where should I buy stuff? Manila, Philippines
« on: May 15, 2014, 11:50:44 PM »
Hi guys! I'm new to calligraphy and Im just starting to gather all the needed supplies before I start practicing.

Where can I buy supplies here in Philippines? I know there are online stores who sell stuffs like the nibs, pen holders and inks. But most of the time they're out of stock or sometimes they're accepting pre-orders which takes time to arrive.

Aside from Scribe Writing Essentials and Deovir, are there any other stores where I can buy stuff?

Especially the paper.  :( I have a hard time trying to find a good paper to practice with since some says that it should be at least 100gsm or substance 24. I have a hard time looking at the local bookstores. Mostly they sell are 70/80/85 gsm.

Thank you!
--- Abi. C. :)

The best one would be the Bellas/ La Bella Scrittura. They're the friendliest bunch and they are very accessible now. Im a regular customer and the pre orders take a month at most so its not really that bad. They just restocked so its best that you visit the website now! :) If it's in Metro Manila, you'll get it in 2 days! They ship every Monday and Thursday! :) They are also very approachable. You can email and ask them questions. http://labellascriturra.checkout.ph

Create by TLF is also a good online store and they restock supplies every now and then at Mrs Grahams Cafe in Tomas Morato. I can give you their number. Just tell me :)

But sadly yes, its usually just Deovir and Scribe. Nevertheless, I get invites every now and then for craft bazaars. Some sell calligraphy items. I'll keep you posted! :)

Paper. When you go to National Bookstore. My ates from the bellas said that PAPER ONE would be the best pick! A rim is super worth it! They also recommend Rhodia pads but they're usually out of stock and pricey. You can check Fullybooked for that. My supportive boyfriend (haha) also got me calligraphy papers from a craft bazaar. :) Always keep in mind that the texture of the papet is important too :)

Dont hesitate to message me if you have more questions! :)

There's a new online store, www.craftcarrot.com , that mostly sell PH Martin inks, brush pens and Japanese nibs. :) they also attend bazaars and have  pop up stores in PINO qc or Jupiter street makati.

Scribe recently upgraded their stuff. They now sell PH Martin inks too!  ;) though they still don't carry sumi inks.   :D

Y'all are so lucky now. When I was starting out, some 2+ years ago, the sources here in Manila were so limited. I had to order online from the US. :)

To add to the list of instagram sellers:
- analogwonders
- PensgalorePH

On Facebook: Art Media (Mindanao based but she is so easy to deal with).

For paper you can go to any Muji store and buy their dotted notebooks, as for the 100gsm ones, you can always find them in National Bookstore. Look for the presentation paper from Paper One or HP Laserjet Executive Paper. I've tried those and they hold inks well. Oh and Bevania brand paper is a great candidate too.

I've been looking for Rhodia pads at Fullybooked but I'm not sure all stores has one.
Although, @calligrapads on instagram has great quality pads and is cheap, too!

Compiled them all craft shops in my bloghttps://datzaragoza.wordpress.com/2015/03/06/calligraphy-shops-in-the-philippines/ :D

I find that there is still a shortage supplies here in the Philippines.
The links on dtzrgza's blog post are great but I found that most of the items on the majority of the individual seller's stores are out of stock.

Hi! I searched almost all (some sites are down) of the links mentioned above for the speedball oblique comfort grip holder red and blue but to no avail. Or maybe I need to email each one of them? If there's anyone who has seen it here in Ph please help. Thanks a lot!
