I love Beatrix Potter too. Who could resist her adorable animals dressed in clothing and the soft colors she used. She was quite the landowner and farmer as well as a gifted artist. She donated a lot of land at her death to protect it from development. I wish we had more people doing that in Florida. Another lot was cleared in my neighborhood this morning and a beautiful hawk was looking on sadly. I think they destroyed his tree.

This is very pretty. Did you use the manuscript fountain pen for this as well?

Very Monty Python. Ni!

That’s gorgeous @Erica McPhee! And thanks for posting the pictures of your pen holds. It’s very helpful.
I think I’m doing it right - a combination - depending on what I’m writing. The arm movement is difficult but the warm up drills are helping it along.

Michael Sull’s book is a great resource. Thanks for the information @Zivio and others here on the forum. I read a lot of the older posts and have picked up all sorts of useful information. You’re all so kind and helpful.

Spencerian Script / Re: Cherry Blossoms!
« on: April 14, 2023, 01:41:41 PM »
So pretty! I especially love the B and flourished s in blossoms. Do you use whole arm movement or does it just depend on how big the letter or flourish is? I’ve been working on Spencerian on my own and though the old books always say to use arm movement, I don’t think Michael Sull does or maybe his arm movement is just subtle.

I saw this too and was intrigued for a minute. It is comforting to get something pretty in the mail. As a gift it seems impersonal when you could just send someone some tea, treats and Jane Austen’s Letters with your own marginalia. For me it’s a no and yeah, a tad icky. (But I listen to records and have a collection of old oil cans, so what do I know.)

Those hairlines are remarkable! Looking at this I get the same peace I get walking into a chapel - such quiet beauty and grace. Thanks for sharing.

I thought I'd share this script piece from Mapes Auctioneers online auction. Current high bid is $300. I love that C. Seaman is all the things! Ventriloquist, sign painter, stenographer, medical electrician... Isn't it a charming piece of folk art?

Great discussion! I’m a hobbyist calligrapher and also make Ukrainian eggs (pysanky). Although I’m not producing for clients, I’m hard on myself. I tend to be hypercritical of my work.  When I took Dreaming in Script with David Grimes, he always gently corrected us if we used the word perfection.
I love handcrafted items and antiques and the imperfections that come with them. When my own mistakes are too ugly, obvious or unfixable, I get great satisfaction out of my recycling bin/garbage can.

That’s sweet! They fell in love through writing. I think the disclaimer is used on all of their collections - just as a general warning.

Spencerian Script / Antiques Roadshow Spencerian

The latest episode of Antiques Roadshow showed a beautiful full color Spencerian Drawing. What a treasure!

I’m not sure if my link will work but if not, just google Antiques Roadshow Spencerian and it comes right up.

I can’t wrap my head around someone paying for someone else to design a signature. But that’s just me…

I’m sorry to hear about your family members. I hope they’re managing after such a terrifying and stressful ordeal. You wouldn’t remember with all the folks here on Flourish Forum, but I live in North Port off of Chamberlain. I lost a lot of mature trees but my small, 25 year old house made it through. Many times during the storm I wished I had evacuated but your explanation of why people don’t or can’t is perfect. Thanks for posting that because people who haven’t lived in Florida don’t get it.
