Today google honors Sütterlin, the designer of the German script that bears his name. It isn't exactly calligraphy, being designed so that kids could easily write it, it is based on the Kurrent script, but is more suitable to a ball point pen, as it lacks shading. Kurrent is influenced by Fraktur and was banned along with Sütterlin by the Nazis. Interestingly, Sütterlin designed a latin script, and students learned both with the latin script being used for foreign words or works, similar to the practice of italicizing foreign words in newspapers.
