« on: February 23, 2016, 12:33:17 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I am interested in learning Fraktur calligraphy and was wondering where to start. I have been learning calligraphy for some time and now want to take up Fraktur. Im unable to find any references / exemplars.

I was hoping that one of you could help me looking for good exemplars / links / guidelines along with instructions for both majuscules and minuscules.

Thanks in advance

Established in 1980 for the enjoyment and practice of calligraphy, the Greater Cincinnati Calligraphers Guild encourages members to develop and use their skills through meetings with fellow scribes, workshops with international artists and exhibits.

The three founders, Marlene Steele, Karen McMannon and Marlene Boas, introduced the Greater Cincinnati Calligraphers Guild to Cincinnati at Summerfair in 1980. Through its vibrant programming, the Guild encourages members to explore and enjoy the spirit of the handwritten letter and related arts; including gilding, illumination and papercraft.

Introductions / Greetings from Ohio..!! :)
« on: April 10, 2015, 10:02:41 AM »
First and fore mostly would like to Thank you..Erica for allowing me to join the forum.

Hi All,

Greetings from Cincinnati..Well, professionally am a graphic designer, recently shifted to Ohio..I joined FF a while ago but alas had been travelling for a while, hence could not introduce myself earlier. I believe am an artist, an explorer and an avid traveller. Recently, I have started practicing with the worksheets provided by Ms. Erica and have been fortunate to find a class here in Cincy, conducted by Karen McMannon..:)

My love for letters started since I was young. I remember my fascination with colours and different mediums of stationary, and collecting different tit-bits from empty chocolate wrappers to the unusual letter stamps and till date i hold deep affection towards new stationary and smell of old paper (esp. the handmade ones..) I love Lettering esp. with different mediums and love spending time wandering around especially in stationary and paper stores.

During my early college days I was introduced to Typography and hence my journey in the art of drawing letters began and then calligraphy.. I always did want to learn this art but somehow couldn’t pursue it..anyways long story cut short I have finally found my source of inspiration at this forum and am so..so glad..

I have started my journey in calligraphy by firstly getting into Copperplate and am loving every bit of it..from trying different nibs to doing the nasty yet important drills…special thanks to Erica for putting together this forum and her tutorials..they’re just fantastic for a newbie like me..:) Im loving it.. as the whole procedure is working like a therapy for me..so much of comfort and patience this activity has given me..:)

After the Copperplate i intend to try my hands on brush calligraphy as Ive already tried it a bit on my own by seeing some beautiful pieces of art created by some awesome artists..showcased on various social networks..

At the end would just like to Thank you all for being an inspiration and amazing resource on this journey.. I am super excited and happy to find this forum…:)
