Name that tune
« on: September 08, 2016, 10:10:48 AM »
Pretty rusty--haven't had much time to practice lately.  Listened to Pandora and did a few warm-up sentences this morning before doing some serious practice.  To make it interesting, rather than doing the usual "Quick brown fox" warm-up, I took inspiration from the songs playing while I wrote.  Can you name these tunes?

(Hint for young-un's:  I'm a child of the 80s  ::))

Haha!  So it's not just me who does that, then.  Some of those are very familiar, and rather (ahem) of their time.  ;)

Perhaps this should be a regular thing, like the word of the day and puns threads ...

Ooh!  My guesses (from another 80s child):

1.  Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
2. ?
3. I can hear the melody, don't know the name
4. Toto - Africa (I LOVE this song!)
5. ?
6. Van Halen - Jump
7. A Ha (?) - Take on me
8. Madonna - Like a Prayer?
9. ?
10. Michael Jackson - ?

I love practicing like this- writing lyrics as they come on.  Thanks for sharing!  And very lovely practice. :)

Thank you for the compliment on my practice.  :)  I want to post something for critique soon but I want to get rid of the rusty feeling I have while I'm writing, first.

Oh, and 2) is 8675309/Jenny by Tommy Tutone, and what about "Take my hand, we'll make I swear.  Whoa, livin' on a prayer" and "Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods"?   ;)

Another indicator of my age:  I had "Jump" on 45.  Can't remember what was on the B side.

An indicator of mine: I saw Bon Jovi at Wembley Arena in 1984.  They were the warm up act for Kiss, and nobody paid them the slightest attention.

Oh good lord.  I incorrectly numbered them.  I'll go back and edit.  (eye roll)

Bianca, don't tell me you don't know #5!  What kind of 80s child are you? ;)

We gotta hold on to what we got.
It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not.
We got each other, and that's a lot for love.
We'll give it a shot!

Whoa, we're halfway there!
Whoa, livin' on a prayer!
Take my hand, we'll make it I swear.
Whoa, livin' on a prayer!

Ha!  Reminds me of The Monkees warming up for Jimi Hendrix.  ;D

Speaking of KISS, here's a favorite of mine  ::)

Oh no!  I'm going to have "Last Train to Clarksville" playing on repeat in my head now.   ;)

HA!  Okay, I can get the song in my head- I can hear it loud and clear, but I'm fighting the temptation to google the singer and song name!!!  It's kind of killing me.

I love the idea of a thread like this, but at my age, some of the songs I know would be unknown to most on this forum!!!  haha
