Day 4 - 2022: SCALLOP
« on: October 04, 2022, 12:57:15 AM »
My Inktober challenge is to push myself to try the more ornamental style capitals. And it has been challenging! Especially that one on the "Scratchmore" Writing Paper.  It has some really different directional flows to the lines.  I look forward to studying and practicing these more after getting the general shapes and directions down.

And I'm back. Although work was comically awful today and I got home late to a very possessive 11 months old tyrannosaur.
I got back to practicing French Roundhand. It's new to me and still awkward, but it is my favorite script :)

@Zivio I love the capital S, and the view of the ocean every day :)
@AnasaziWrites that is one big scallop :D

Cheers!
Oh crępe!

@AnasaziWrites - I think that font is "Futura" (using all caps).  It's a great Bauhaus-style typeface dating from 1927, designed for the New Frankfurt-Project.  /pedantry.  :)

@Lucie Y - A great comeback with that French Roundhand with lovely embellishments on the versal and in the text!  I hope your little one is feeling better.

@Zivio - I really admire that kidney-shaped curve in the ornament on the S.  I find those shapes very challenging; yours flows very nicely!  I'm not a fan of that Strathmore paper either - have you tried Clairefontaine writing paper?  It's silky smooth!

Here's mine today -- I think the copperplate went a little better, but I got interrupted mid-word several times, which wasn't ideal, and then I ran out of time to try it all in one go.  So here we are.  Not best, but all part of the practicing, and I'm not entirely ashamed of the effort.  However, I did spend time on working up a full-color drawing of the Scallop-breasted Antpitta - an adorable little tropical bird!  I'm working on my birds for a bird project I'm considering doing this summer, so there will be more birds coming up. @Lucie Y - I hope we get to see more of your birds too!

Great day 4 work everyone.
My ink highlight for today? I spelled the recipient’s name wrong…but was able to fix it! (had to change a “u” into an “o”)

@Lucie Y  Love this style you are doing. @K-2 I see improvement in your copperplate already. Looks great!
