Tools & Supplies / Good practice paper for the Pilot Parallel Pen?
« on: July 03, 2019, 08:47:33 PM »
Hi!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a practice paper that has the following qualities:

• Enough grip (fine grain) for good pen control;
• Translucid enough to see a grid underneath;
• Will not make the Pilot Parallel Pen ink bleed;
• Comes as a pad.

Thanks for everything!

Chris.

Hi everyone!

I'm going to ask my question again, because I still haven't found my answer...

People using Moon Palace Sumi and/or gouache with broad nibs: what is your dilution ratio? (Ink:water)

I can't seem to get the results I need! The consistency is bad, the thins are too thick, etc.

My favourite ink to work with is walnut ink because it provides me with super fine hairlines and the consistency is perfect. Here is my recipe: 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of crystals in 1/4 cup of lukewarm water (≈60 ml).

Thanks again!

Tools & Supplies / What to do when McCaffery's ink turns into paste?
« on: December 21, 2018, 08:34:19 AM »
Hi!

I have several bottles of McCaffery's ink and I love it. However, a few turned into paste (the Black).

What do I do to turn it back into liquid form?

Thanks!

Chris.

Hi!

Can someone please tell me what kind of capitals those are?

Thanks!

I clean my nibs as soon as I have a feeling that the hairlines start to get bad … usually after one or two lines with walnut ink, more often with thicker, pigment based inks like gouache etc. – always when I lay down my pen just for a few minutes. I wipe off the ink on a cotton cloth, dip in water, wipe again. It's sort of automatic. But I admit that it's more work with a broad nib, especially if it has a reservoire …

Thank you! :D

Do you clean/ dip in water while you’re working? I’ve read many places you need to remove your ink every two minutes or so to avoid corrosion. Not full on cleaning but dipping I water and drying of with paper or at least remove excess/drying ink with a towel every 5 mins or so. :)

Thanks! But every 2 minutes seems intense, no?

Thank you Bianca!

On another note, I'm wondering if my nibs get ruined because I take too long before washing them? I usually wash them after my working session. So sometimes it could be 1-2 hours of usage before washing the nib. Should I rinse it like every 30 minutes or something?

Also: does anyone use this Higgins?

I bought it today, but before I open the bottle, I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with it.

Thanks!

Tools & Supplies / Moon Palace Sumi and gouache with broad nibs.

Hi!

As you may have read in another thread, Higgins Eternal destroys my nibs for some reason. Yes, I know, I'm the only one on earth that has that problem.  :-[

I'd like to try Moon Palace Sumi and gouache. However, I'm wondering about dilution.

My question is for people using Moon Palace Sumi and/or gouache with broad nibs: what is your dilution ratio? (Ink:water)

Thank you so much!

Chris.

Look at this! This is after two days of using Higgins! On the other hand, my other 2.5mm Brause nib is still intact after weeks of using walnut.

Hi!

I never have any problem when I use walnut ink. I've had 2 bottles of Higgins over the years. Always the same.

I just bought the Higgins Pen Cleaner; my nib is all clean now, but still doesn't work well.

Thanks!
