Tutorial Request: Mixing Pearl Ex Ink
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:34:18 AM »
If someone is mixing Pearl Ex ink and has the ability and time, could you please post a little tutorial video of how you mix it?  I know how to mix a small amount of Pearl Ex into a different ink or gouache.  I'm more wondering about how to mix an ink whose color / pigment comes primarily from the Pearl Ex powder.  If you're mixing rose gold, that a huge bonus!   :D

Thank you in advance!!

I'm having the worst luck with mixing the pearl ex ink. I can't get it to write any suggestions? I tried following the directions off of the instagram video but still no luck. Do I need the magnetic ink stirrer?

What kind of nib are you using? In my experience, it helps to use a nib that gives usually more thick hairlines. Also I think you need to add more water to the mix if you don't get it to write. That was at least for me the reason I had problems to get metallic inks to flow. I hope that helps!

There's a sale going on at joann.com for $1.49 and $1.99 flat rate shipping this week, check it out! if you're interested in the set of 32, the cheapest one I have found is on Amazon for about $40 and free shipping :)

Hope that helps!

/Update: I just saw that joann is selling it for $34! Use the code CRAFT067 to get another 20% off total purchase of craft items, but that means you can't apply the $1.99 flat rate shipping! They only allow one code per order. Dharma trading sells it for $45-ish I think.
