Welcome, @LondonLaura!

Greetings from Deep in the Heart of Texas.

I'm a relative newbie and found Paul's videos, too.  They just drew me in.  Have you listened to his podcast, "Nibs the Podcast"?  I appreciate how seriously he takes calligraphy.

I've ventured from hobby to hobby as well.  (I'm not brave enough to call mine "art" just yet.)  Calligraphy is the thing that I've managed to stick with the longest.  I love seeing the different letter forms, and it's very rewarding to watch my own improvement over time.

ˇBienvenidos, @Ruben77 !

I started learning calligraphy about a year and a half ago but just found this forum recently.  There is so much information and knowledge on this forum.  I have often spent way too much time, digging through some of the older posts.  It's so much fun, but not very good for my productivity but I'm learning a lot.

@Erica McPhee

I just listened to this podcast.  Wow!  There is so much great information in there.  I was so nice to hear how the Forum started.  I really liked your advice about not getting too caught up in the tiny details and to focus on getting the basics down first.  I also agree with you that everyone in the Forum is super supportive and seems to genuinely want to help others.

I'm so glad that I found y'all!

@nicole.t,

It's wonderful to virtually meet someone who is also in Austin.  Thank you for the suggestion for the Capital City Scribes.  I will email and ask about the next meeting.

Hi @Aries M!

Princeton was one of my favorite trainees.  He has been happily adopted for two years.  I definitely have a thing for blues...and brindles...and pink noses....basically any dog that has short fur and a giant head.    ;D

Thank you for the tip, @Erica .  I will absolutely check out your tutorials.  That gives me a great place to start.  I am gleefully overwhelmed by all of the information here.

Hi all.  I'm Clover.  I'm an intermediate beginner.  So far, I've been focused on learning modern calligraphy, but am finding myself being drawn to Copperplate.

I live in Austin, Texas but I'm originally from Madison, Wisconsin.  I've spent the last decade training shelter dogs with moderate to severe behavior challenges.  I am also an avid runner.  I have run a marathon in all 50 states as well as in Finland and Iceland.

I'm excited to be part of this group of supportive creators.  One of my challenges with calligraphy (and I suppose, in life) is putting things that I've created out into the world.  Although I don't yet have expertise to help someone with calligraphy, I hope that I can offer support and enthusiasm.

Tools & Supplies / Re: Going to Omaha?
« on: August 16, 2021, 11:38:58 AM »
I just listed to The Calligraphy podcast's episode where they played clips from the 2019 conference.  It all sounded so exciting!  I read about the classes that were held in Omaha and they all sounded incredible!

How newbie friendly is the conference, typically?  I'm seriously considering going to Atlanta next year.  I'd hate to go and feel like I was over my head and then get discouraged.
