Can anyone please help me with creating my own guidelines
« on: April 21, 2016, 09:29:58 AM »
Hi everyone, I practice using two different guidelines, both of which I really enjoy but I think it would be brilliant if I combined the two. I enjoy using the standard Rhodia Pad grid (5x5) but I miss the 55degree slant to keep my letters consistently slanted. Try as I have on all the guideline generators I can't succeed in creating one with all three- horizontal & vertical (5x5) and diagonal (55degree) lines. Can anyone help me PLEASE?

One way to do that is to take a blank piece of paper, draw 55 degree slant lines all over it, scan it, then print the scan on your rhodia paper.
Here is a jpeg of what I am talking about. Just print this image on your rhodia paper.

Will this work for you?  Let me know if you need darker dots or lines, or if you need dashed slant lines.

There is an old thread with a bunch of Copperplate guidelines I made in different x-heights – maybe something for you in there too :).

I've designed my generator for broad-edge scripts but, it could be abused in many ways.

In guidelines section set:
  • Nib width to 1 (mm)
  • Change lines to:
    • 10 above baseline, plain
    • 5 above baseline, plain
    • baseline, plain
    • 5 below baseline, plain (enter it as -5)
  • delete unneded guide lines.

Modify slant line
  • Set angle to 0 degrees
  • Set distance to 5 nib widths

Modify nib guide
  • Set angle to 55 degrees
  • Set distance to your preferred distance between guidelines

Adjust line widths too your preferences.

For your information:
Slant line angle is angle between (imaginary) vertical line and slant line.
Nib angle line is between horizontal guidelines and nib angle line.

DB I tried the grid that you created for me and I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't mind to please adjust it slightly for me, instead of vertical dots please would you insert lines and yes perhaps would you make them darker.
I am ever so grateful, thank you!

This version has horizontal lines every 5mm and slant lines at 55 degrees, with black lines instead of light gray.  Is this what you are looking for?  If you want to use something under blank paper as a guidesheet (instead of printing guidelines on the paper) I can easily make the lines thicker.

I'm not sure what You want to achieve. Please, make a sketch and mark a line you want to add, and I'll try to explain how to do that (or implement it if it cannot be done in current version).

Thank you so much for offering to help, I have attached what I am trying to do, which is basically to have a guide sheet with both a 5x5 grid as well as 55degree (or 45degree) oblique lines, thank you!!

OK, Lets do it:

Open http://liniuszek.prv.pl and press Draw to check it works. Now return to top of page and set:

Paper:
Leave as is.

Layout:
Top: 8,5;
Left: 7,5; Right 7,4;
Bottom: 8,4;
Columns: 1

Guidelines:
Nib width: 1

Delete lines:
7,5 above baseline
2,5 above baseline
2,5 below baseline
4, below baseline
Edit
9 above baseline, set it to 10 above baseline.

Slant Guides:
Angle: 0
Distance: 5

Nib angle guides:
Angle: 55
Distance: 10; Distance type: Horizontal

And press Draw.
Adjust line width, to intended use of your guidelines. Set line-width to 0,05 mm for practice directly on printout, set it to 0,4 mm or 0,5 mm for using it below slightly translucent papers, press Draw once more.

Save newly generated guidelines to a file, open it in Acrobat Reader or similar software and print.
