Hello neighbor, i am in Long Beach and welcome to the forum. I have to say that there is no better group of people not just calligraphers and artists here in this community. So full of resources and talent that it is impossible to not succeed, i know i am grateful to have found Flourish Forum. I am not master, but always feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Hello! 반갑습니다!

I love the sample you showed!! If this is you as a beginner, then I'm not sure where that puts me, even though I'm also a beginner. I'm nowhere near your level yet! Did you use rules and guidelines to do that? What ink and paper did you use?

Welcome to the forum, and I look forward to seeing you around!

Hi!

Aw, we are all in this journey together :) Yep, I used a ruler a guideline for this because I wrote on black cardstock paper (from Michaels) and drew in lines with pencil. For ink, I used the Finetec metallic palette! <--- I love these colors but it does take more time because I'm loading it onto the nib every time.

Thanks for the warm welcome <3

Tips for Lefties / Re: Tips for Left Handed Calligraphers
« on: November 07, 2015, 04:05:37 AM »
Thanks for starting this Erica! I for one am passionate about empowering and encouraging fellow left handers!  ;D

Wanted to post a question here:
Besides John DeCollibus, are there other well-known left handed calligraphers I can research and learn from? I thought I saw a post of another left handed calligrapher, but can't seem to find that post now.

Thanks in advance!

His video definitely challenged me to try an oblique holder again...but with the angle he's writing in...i'm having a hard time re-training my muscles to write the way he does! I currently love writing with a straight holder, but did see that the nib is at a steeper angle compared to the oblique holder. Will have to revisit again..thanks for sharing Connie!

Question for others: Are there other well known left handed calligraphers? I'd love to research videos of them writing and see if they would also agree with John DeCollibus

Tips for Lefties / Re: Tips for Lefties - multiple links!

Thanks Erica for the links!

As a lefty, I'm always looking to learn from left handed calligraphers and try different methods to improve my writing. John DeCollibus' videos definitely blow my mind too, but I can't seem to write at his angle with an oblique penholder! So currently writing underhand with a straight holder..

I just signed up! My first exchanged, looking forward to partaking in the festivities :)

I'm definitely having this problem too!

I'm scratching my head here because I'm pretty sure the answers are right..I'll keep trying..

Introductions / Hello from Irvine, CA :)
« on: November 07, 2015, 02:51:59 AM »
Hi Everyone!

I'm Younghae, recently moved cross country from NY/MA area to Irvine, CA. Took an italic calligraphy class 10 years ago in college, really enjoyed it, but then got a job/married/had kids-->so forgot about it, but tough circumstances last year brought calligraphy back into my life. I took a Copperplate workshop with an inspirational calligrapher Kaye Hanna in Orlando, FL around this time last year. Though it was hard as a lefty to figure out the right holder and angle at first, I haven't been able to stop writing since! Fun things that I've been learning through this journey is that there are a couple of calligraphers in my extended family (all in Korea). One of them is my dad's great uncle, a well known calligrapher in Korea, who has a museum displaying all his artwork..so I'm super excited to go back someday and learn all that I can from my ancestors!

Before I moved, my teacher encouraged me to get plugged into a community of calligraphers/artists, so when I heard about "Flourish Forum" through IG, what better way to connect with like-minded calligraphy enthusiasts than this?  :)

I look forward to learning and growing with everyone!

p.s. Here is a custom print I was able to write for my friend recently. I love how people in my community are appreciating handwritten gifts more and more!
