Amazing! I liked the initial idea, but Jean took it to soaring heights!

Hi Mom,
I am in a very similar position to you, and received some very gracious help on this thread

Jean, I had a look at your example, it is fantastic! But way beyond me :)

Thank you Erica, that is a fantastic set of examples! The flourishes are amazing. It gives me something to work towards.
Capital letters are something I have yet to get much of a grip on yet.

Inky, I agree completely, but for a Christmas card, sometimes its good to at least say the basics :) Lovely calligraphy!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have found something that is a bit novel, and I like it a lot!

I use brass plumbing fittings, end caps. They are just the right shape and depth to use for an inkwell, and are pleasingly heavy. I use the male cap as the ink holder, and the female cap as the cap. 1/2" and 3/4" caps fall into a reasonable price range for me. On my main inkwell, I soldered the male end to a chunk of copper to make it harder to tip and to provide a better grip when opening.

I cut out some circles from an old silicone cake pan to use as gaskets on the caps, this prevents leaks and gives a soft but firm close.

I have been practicing at work to surprise my wife with a handwritten card. I have about one more month to get it right! I would love to see anyone else's example of this, especially with extra flourish!

Introductions / Hello from Perth

Hello All,
I've been lurking here for a while, enjoying the excellent tutorials and fantastic threads on this forum.

I picked up my first nib and penholder about a month ago, and have loved it. Pens and nibs are not very common over here, so everything comes from ebay or from John Neal. There is an excruciating wait from the time I order something and the time it arrives.

Thank you for your fantastic forum, I am excited to join!
