Open Flourish | General Discussion / Want to become an Expert?
« on: November 06, 2022, 11:31:24 AM »
It's more than 10,000 hours.
By chance, I ran across this video describing what it takes to become an expert. The video does not mention calligraphy or writing at any point, but it could easily could have. I found it fascinating, showing, among other things, the limitation of online demonstrations of a desired skill leading to expertise, and why the self-taught master (like Ken Fraser) is so rare.

Inktober 2022 / Day 31 - 2022: FARM
« on: October 31, 2022, 06:45:53 AM »
The honor of penning the word "farm" today goes to my grandmother, who annotated the second photo in 1942, the year they bought it. At top, my father in the 1940's. Middle, the farm as they bought it. Bottom, a plate my mother painted, probably around 1950.

From our kitchen counter--all the usual suspects

This quirky script is called Sangue LT by Gabrielle Laubinger, 1997. To me, it's almost unreadable unless you have more than a single word of it, but thought I'd try it.
