A test to insert a photo into a post
« on: December 11, 2013, 03:43:36 PM »
Here's where I'll add my photo -------->

1. Went to Flickr and copied the link to the photo.
2. Clicked on the "Mona Lisa" above and pasted the link between
3. Tested it in "Preview" below.
4. Shows the screen where I entered the code blank in Preview.

Hmmm... it's like magic ... haha!

Can you paste the link without the codes around it?

As far as I can tell, the answer lies in how the photo is set up in flickr. I think it is possible the photo is not set up to share? They said they include BBcode which is for bulletin boards.

Here is their FAQ on the topic:

The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in the Share menu on the photo, to the left of the More menu. We now also include BBCode! (standard message board code)

There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.

The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.

Hmmm. I'll look into that but my Flickr pics show on my blog via Flickr so maybe they've changed something I'm not aware of. This doesn't explain the photos I tried to share via Paper and Inks website. Normally you just insert the web address and it would show up.

Has anyone else on here been able to share photos using the icon?

Thanks, Erica.

Adding the BB Code:

Shoot! It didn't work!

All my photos are set to be viewable by anyone.

Hi guys!

I use Flickr. I've been using BB forums for 15+ years so I'm able to troubleshoot Ellen's post - the issue here is, the [ img][/img] BBCode can only be used to point to an actual .jpg file, and not the Flickr page URL as she had it (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/11326708503/), so that's why it's not showing up.

Here's how I did mine - have 2 windows/tabs open, one on your Flourish Forum post, and one on your Flickr image page.

Go to the Flickr image page.
  • Click on the "Share" icon so the box pops up.
  • Click the "Grab the HTML/BBCode part.
  • Select "Small 320x320," and BBCode. Make sure it says BBCode, not HTML, or it won't work.
  • Click in the text box to highlight the code.
  • Copy.

Go to your Flourish Forum post, and paste directly into the text box. No need to click on any icons.

Hit Preview, and if you're happy with how it looks, post away!

Thank you Linda! I was posting the same thing at the same time! You are a peach for posting that! Thank you!

I think there is a mod for the forum to include the flickr sharing button at the top when you are creating your message. So I will work on that.

For some reason it is not working for me. I will keep trying!

Linda, thank you so much for taking the time to post that great tutorial!  :)

OK, I figured it out! I should have read Linda's tutorial closer! You do not have to click on the "Mona Lisa" button before pasting the link. Just paste the link directly into the message and it should work!

Glad to help! I just edited my post to say "post directly into the text box."

And what a beautiful place setting. It looks "picture perfect!" ;)
