General How To's & Projects / Made my own lightbox!
« on: January 14, 2016, 09:32:40 AM »
Hi there!

Just finished my diy lightbox. I've looked online for one, but they are so expensive and hard to find here in the Netherlands.

So I thought: why can't I make one myself? If I like it, I can alway safe money for one.

I've bought a 3D photoframe (so the picture will be at the back of the frame and the glass 1 cm above it) and I already had some LED batterypowered christmaslights. I tapes the lights into a spiral on white paper and placed it at the back of the frame. I also glued some white bakingpaper on the back of the glass so it's more milky and not seethrough. Let my boyfriend make a hole for the wires and voila..

It looks like you see the dots of the lights very good, but in real life it's not so present as on the picture.

Hope it will guide through learning the right angles and shapes for copperplate, so I can buy a good one!

Greets, Linda

Wow.  I think your "doodles" show that if you practice, it won't be long before you will become accomplished at copperplate.   For a beginner, you seem to have a head start.  How lovely!

Thank you so much! I hope so, I really love the style of copperplate and can't wait to practise it. Next week I will receive my book from Eleanor Winters.. Hope it will help me!

Good luck!! I like the Brause Steno - it can take a lot of abuse and can work on rough paper :-)

Thank you, I will try it out in the future. Can't wait 'till my book arrives next week!

Hi there,

just wanted to post some doodles online from the first time I touched this oblique pen. I just received my ordered things today, I'm just still waiting for my book by Eleanor Winters and my boyfriend who brings me new cartridges for my printer so I can print out the guidelines.

I've ordered different nibs and I wanted to know how they feel on the paper. I've ordered the Tachikawa G, the Nikko G, the Zebra G and  the Brause Steno nibs. I liked the Zebra G and the Brause Steno, i didn't liked the two other very much. I feels like they scrape the paper. I've ordered the Rhodia lined and unlined pads.

Tonight I want to practise seriously with the squared bottoms and tops and the basic drills.

Hope you can guide me along the way of learning copperplate :)

Introductions / Greetings from the Netherlands!!

Hello there!

So happy I´m accepted to this forum. I´m Linda, 27 years old and I´m from Holland. When I was about 8 years old, we had a little book we called a `poetry album`. You go by all the people you know and they use one page to write a little poem about the owner of the album and one of my teachers wrote it in calligraphy.

Ever since i have always been fascinated by calligraphy, and mostly copperplate. I love the grace of this writing and when I see video´s on YouTube it gives me a feeling of peace. I haven´t thought about it for a while but the last few months I´ve been looking at instagramaccounts and I have the urge to learn it too! I´ve stumbled across a webpage full of beginners information and ordered the supplies she advised for beginners. I´ve also ordered the books from Eleanor Winters, Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy and Dick Jackson, Copperplate Calligraphy.

I hope I can find a lot of help and feedback here, once I have my supplies and books!
