Title: Calligraphy Guideline Generator
Post by: AmyNeub on December 03, 2014, 10:27:19 PM
Someone gave me this link to help with creating guidelines for Spencerian and Copperplate too.

I thought I would share.

Are the default entries good for basic Copperplate practice or should I adjust them somehow? When I look at the generated default page it looks really small. I am so new at this, perhaps I should print out different sizes and experiment.

Start at 1/4" x-height. It might feel huge, but it's better to see and work on the small details.

Can anyone help/advise me how to create a guideline with 5inch grid and also 45 or 55 degree diagonal lines. I have tried on Shipbrook but to no avail, thanks x

Guidelines and other templates are easy to make in Powerpoint.  Will these work for you?  Let me know if you need different or darker lines.

The link is great, and it just opened fine for me.  Here again is the link I used: http://shipbrook.net/guidelines/
I wonder, it might be working for me because I am using Google Chrome for my browser.  The site itself recommends using Chrome or Firefox.  I tried the link on another computer using Internet Explorer, and the full link did not open.
Anyway, these are some thoughts that might help, it is really worth the effort to get this link to work.

Sorry guys, I did not create this website. There is a red warning located here on the website

"JavaScript is required. For best results, I strongly recommend using Firefox or Google Chrome. Some functionality is broken under Internet Explorer, Konqueror, Opera Mini, and the default Android Web browser. And don't even bother trying Lynx or Elinks."

Maybe update your Java too. It worked for me in Safari too. Good luck

I only use  Chrome. And i was trying whole day yesterday opening it.
Now its working again. I guess site problem then.

Anyways thanks for the efforts. Appreciate.

Just a beginner here, but could one of you recommend the settings for Spencerian guidelines? These are great links, but the original one seems to make the ascenders and descenders equal to x height. In my Mott workbooks, they look like half the height of x...

Hi All ~

I used the link below several times to print out very customized guidelines.  It was AWESOME!  However, now when I go to the link, it appears it no longer exists - ? - Has anyone else had this same experience?  If it's gone, can anyone recommend a guideline generator that was equally awesome, customizable, and easy? OMGosh I hope so!

Thanks for any info you can provide :-)

Hi @rubyrose5757

That was my go-to as well.  I went to print some new pages the other day (within a week) and it wasn't working for me either.  Hopefully it's just undergoing maintenance or something and it will be back up, but in the meantime there are other options.  In another corner of the forum there's a great collection of options:

https://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=6233.0 (https://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=6233.0)

The first one is not bad.  Mind you I was printing for Copperplate, not Spencerian, but I believe most of them have a wide variety of options.  Good luck!  Here's hoping Shipbrook will be back on line.  This is a good reminder to save the templates you like, I suppose.  :/

Oh no @rubyrose5757 ! I'm so sad! That one was my favorite!  :'(

I hope you are right @KristinT and he is just doing maintenance.

Thanks for providing the other link!  ;) This is a good one as well:  Template Guidelines (https://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=260).

Kristin and Erica ~  Thanks so much for your empathy  :)  and your suggestions. If I find any other guideline generator that's comparable, I'll rush right back here to the Forum and share it with everyone.  Fingers crossed !
