2022 Exchanges / Re: Wish You Were Here Exchange Sign Ups are Now Closed.
« on: September 20, 2022, 04:06:50 PM »
Thank you for the lovely destinations that you shared.  I am sitting here re-looking at my exchange pieces.  Had to stop, smell the roses, and acknowledge those that shared a card.  I wanted to thank you all individually alas I can not locate the list that was emailed to us.

I think, Michael, yours was the one with exquisite (Spencerian ??)  It is so delicate I almost feel I should not touch it.  Beyond lovely!  Is that you behind the turtle?

I really need to think of a way to display these gems to enjoy going forward vs filing them away in a box or something.

I may switch to uncial.   Our friend here, Jean Wilson, stated it might be easier for me to pick up.

I tried a practice with All the Best and it is so pretty (on my Rhodia paper).  Will be glad when I get good at italics so it can really look pretty.  The Diamine is in the second photo, about middle of the page the diagonal lines.  I was using Pilot Parallel pen 3.8 with a cartridge so I had to switch to a pen with no cartridge inside.

Boy the dipping is sure different than with the cartridge.  I think for practice I like having the cartridge.  I have enough going on to think about without adding dipping a pen every few seconds.

Broad Edge Pen Calligraphy / Guideline Generator

Do any of you know the website where guidelines may be generated?  I used it daily when I was attempting to learn copperplate and now for the life of me I can NOT remember the site and I don't think I have it bookmarked.  I have Googled and many were listed except the one I want/like.  It was made by a woman, I do remember that.  The name of the site does NOT indicate what the site is (which doesn't help me remember).  Ugghhh, this is so frustrating.  The day I decide to sit down and practice now I can't remember my guideline site.

I have recommended it to others dozens of times too.   :o  No longer on Instagram I can't go there and find it readily.  Ughhh.

Hey, Inkventors - Diamine announced the Inkvent collection for 2022 "The Green Edition" at the beginning of this month (August 2021), but I haven't had time to post about it until now.  It's available for pre-release purchase at the usual outlets.  Have I already pre-ordered mine?  Yes. Yes I have!

@Lyric did you ever get around to using the "All the Best" (2021) that you finally bought?  I'd love to see what you've done with it!

--yours, K

Umm, what had happened wuz . . .!  This beautiful bottle and ink is no less than 24" from me EVERY SINGLE DAY.  No, I have not used it.  Oh, I pick up the bottle, finger it, shake it to disperse the sheen particles, then place in back in its spot.  I have no excuses; none.  Now, over COVID (hopefully) no excuses.  Ughhhhh.

so your main task is to find a way to enjoy practicing and building up muscle memory and then rev up the speed gradually.

Still working at this, Jean.  Talk about a life long journey.  Phew!!!

@K-2 Yesss, a tip I can use just in time for payday.  Uwww, ordering a bronze fp tomorrow as well.  But, then again, you recommended this with parallel.  That's cool too since I have four of them.  And, yes, perhaps this will motivate me to begin for I S T I L L  have not.  Shame on me!

 ;D ;D :D :) :)

I received a PM yesterday and I thank god.  I love it here and yet do not spend enough time here (or better yet actually practicing some kind of script -  ::) .  This topic seems eons ago and look it has only been in the l a s t month.  Boy, time is moving along SO FAST.  Almost too fast for me.

I now have a part time job (paying) in addition to my full time vocation (ministry/volunteer) and time is really soaring by.  I do not know the last time I picked up a pen for writing "practice" telling myself that as I write letters (which is at least four to five days a week) that I am practicing.  Truth be told, my penwomanship is "different", I would say maybe even a skosh "better" due to all the instruction and practice when I was practicing.  But I won't lie . . . it is n o w h e r e near where I originally wanted it to be (looking like Business Penmanship from back in the day, like monoline Spencerian/Mills/Champion, you get the idea.  I do write at a slight slant now, LOL at self.

Not gonna give up on myself, simply need to find/make time for penwomanship practice after work.  It has got to be doable.  Somehow.  Hubby says my body will get used to working again as he reminds me that I am 62.  Geesh.  I work in a grocery store, receiving clerk and dealing with prices, changing them out each day.  On my feet 99% of my shift.  It has been three weeks and when I get home I am embarrassed to say I find myself sitting at my desk attempting reading or some such and sleep.  Yup, sitting upright, and gone, lights out.  Not to mention the GA heat.  Then I wind up just going to bed figuring I'll rest for a few, get up and get back at it . . . nope.  I tell ya I had better get used to this new schedule because I have things to do.  Can't work and sleep, repeat everyday.  My goodness!

Next up, Italic, like was advised last year in the first place.  I'm gonna do it!  Yes, I will.   Umm, right?   :o

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, @Zivio and @Erica McPhee - Erica, I got these two inks at Atlas Stationers in Chicago (because I couldn't resist the adorable bottles, which come wrapped in little dust bags with tiny droppers).

I feel that way about Ferris Wheel Press inks.  The tops of their inks are dipped in colored wax.  The packaging is exquisite!  I have yet to purchase because I seem to have SO much ink (so little time to use it).  And then you went and intro'd us to those shimmer inks some months back.  I now have this backlist of inks I want in my stash, oy vey.  :-*

I've only been at this for the past few weeks..a work in progress.  Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

WOW, how pretty, Inky.

Well, following your advice last year I purchased this book.  It's on my shelf, LOL!  When I am done with Consistent Cursive I will be diving into this.

Thank you for sharing your long ago efforts.  It is giving this gal hope.  ;D

Cheers,

L

I never dove into this; but my how your writing/progress is making my heart rejoice this morning.  I gotta laugh at self because I remember something YOU advised me many months ago:  "try italic".  Last year somehow italic came across my path and I wondered if it would be a skosh easier to pick up pleasing results than I have had with Copperplate?  I commenced to purchase a set of Pilot Parallel pens, and promptly placed them on my monitor shelf here in front of me.  Oh, and a couple instruction books (Italic Way to Beautiful Handwriting" by Fred Eager and some other book that I can not locate.

Hope you find the text useful, @JanisTX -- Have you visited https://www.boxcarpress.com/ yet?  I get a lot of supplies from them.  Here are some photos of my press - a Chandler & Price.  I wish I knew what year it was made.  It works best if there are two people working it - one operating the press; one feeding the paper.

Heeeey, that's from home!  I suppose many things were manufactured in the good old Ohio NE.
