Who is Signed Up for IAMPETH 2014

The President gets to decide where the convention is held, but they don't always choose their home town. ( example, Phoenix in 2011) Keep in mind, the IAMPETH convention is held every year during peak vacation season. That means, the president needs to find a hotel that has the room to house everyone, classes and can provide an opening and closing banquet. They are usually looking for a combination of good quality/price, as well as nearby activities for the convention.

In years past, the following convention was announced at the closing banquet. I do believe the board voted last year to announce earlier, so that people can plan ahead and arrange for traveling.

It also helps to have a local guild that can help with set-up, planning and making goodie bags, among other things.

It's an experience like no other, and I highly recommend it to any calligrapher, of any level. Get to at least one, and it will really transform you, and your craft.

AHHHHHHHHH!!! Imagine Kermit the Frog when he waves his arms over his head with reckless abandon because that's how I feel right now. Or a 6 year old on a steady diet of FunDip and slurpees.


I got the email today....talk about last minute. I have no idea how I'm going to make this happen but how can I not?! I haven't received details yet except that the woman who dropped out (such a bummer) had a hotel room reserved. I highly doubt I could afford a room by myself...okay, let's just go ahead and say I totally can't afford that. Does anyone here have an extra space in a room? or know anyone that does? I'm thinking of checking Air BnB as well.

I can't wait to be up to my eyeballs in calligraphy. And get to meet so many of you in person!

Schin, I was 20th on the list. I'm guessing there's a few people who couldn't say yes on such short notice. There's a perk to selling yoga pants and teaching swim lessons for a living...

The world doesn't end if I leave for a week.
But my dog will probably miss me.

It was me, that had to cancel. 

But, on that note - I DO have a reservation for the hotel at the special rate, if anyone needs a room and can transfer it to your name. I have to cancel the reservation by July 28th, I believe - so let me know if anyone needs a room.

Oh no, Theresa! I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you - I am so excited but I was really sad that it also meant someone else was missing out. I'll be sure to check out the archive room and EVERYTHING ELSE!

Can't wait to meet you, too, Erica, along with other calligraphers who do such beautiful work.    I attended the IAMPETH in Milwaukee two years ago and it was overwhelming for a newbie and also very informative and fun.  Never knew I could make a pen do what it does!  Sad to hear Theresa had to back out, though.

The best consolation is knowing someone new will get to enjoy the convention, Valarie! Pace yourself, and make time for the things you really want to see/ask/do. I have been so fortunate to go to two conventions so far, and have learned so much and also made life-long friends.

Plus, my art improved immeasurably after the first convention. It really is a great investment in your craft.

I hope to meet you all at a future convention, though  enjoy!!
