Benedikt Gröndal : Handwriting Models (1883)
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:52:51 PM »
Something a little out of the ordinary: Icelandic copperplate, anyone?  This is interesting in its own right, but vastly improved by Gunnlaugur S.E. Briem's excellent introduction.  Unless my browser is behaving eccentrically, the 2.4Mb pdf will download automatically.

That's a lovely booklet, Andy! So interesting to see that they used practically the same pointed pen blackletter / Gothic Kurrent script like in Germany at this time ;), before they switched to the Copperplate / 'Latin' letterforms!

Glad you found it interesting Stefanie.  I suppose the style is more Danish than anything else, with an additional edh and thorn.  Actually the latter is an unhappy member of a copperplate alphabet since it's a rune.  :)

I particularly liked Briem's modern alphabet - he's fairly well known in the UK and Iceland of course, but doesn't seem to get mentioned much elsewhere.  More assorted goodies here!

Very interesting and some great resources. Love finding treasure that's been lying dormant for a while.

Thanks!

Thank you for waking this up, I was wondering how to do some weird danish letters lately... Very, very useful !
