The Great Gatsby
« on: November 27, 2014, 07:06:00 PM »
Hi Everyone,

last year I met a girl at a children's hospital whose favourite novel was The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. As a result of this meeting I took part in Novel November in which instead of writing a novel myself, I hand wrote the whole of Gatsby in fountain pen, binded it and gave it to her as a christmas gift. Sadly, the young girl passed away a couple of months ago and as a sort of reminder to myself I was wondering if anyone would be willing to write out their favourite quotes from the book? I will be posting mine tomorrow!

For anyone who hasn't read the book, here is a favourite of mine which you could use

'I was within and without. Simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.'

I haven't actually read it - I just wanted to pop my head in the thread and say WOW, you wrote out an entire book? What a labour of love! Congrats!

Wow Cally! What an amazing gesture. Did you keep photos of your work?

I love this idea. I am overwhelmed with work right now but I am putting this on my to do list.

Thank you for sharing this with us.  :)

Ahem...

Was touched by this story and decided to join in.  So after a bit of googling I found a quote that I liked and laboriously wrote it out several times in my beginner copperplate until I got something I wanted to take a picture of.  Found some Daisy paper (see what I did there?!) and was ecstatic to have matching washi in my stash...

Decided just to check the quote incase, ya know, the quote was from another F Scott Fitzgerald book and...

Well, I think the picture explains everything  ::)

So, I joined in.  Sorta.  ;D

This is absolutely amazing of you! So sad you weren't able to give her your work - but the gesture itself is amazing.
I LOVE that book & I look forward to writing & sharing my favorite quote from the book!

Just like what my mother taught me :
" Love your parents as much as you can, take care of them while they are still alive, and not after their death day has come that you cry thinking it was too late "
