Favorite Resources / NLoF: French Calligraphy Course Book from 1843
« on: May 28, 2014, 12:32:41 PM »
I found this beautiful calligraphy course book on »Anglaise« (French for Copperplate) from 1843 in the archive of the National Library of France. It’s public domain marked, which means that you won’t have problems with copyright issues in case you’d like to download it. (the download/print link you may find in the upper right corner)

Introductions / Hello, dear »Couturiers of the Written Word«!
« on: May 27, 2014, 11:21:26 AM »

… my name is Arno Kathollnig. I’m a type, typography, lettering and calligraphy obsessed nerd from Austria. My bread-and-butter job is corporate communications and copy writing; my hobby, pastime, passion and obsession is what I mentioned here above – furthermore »Playing with Type« (means: »Designing with Type«) without commercial interest.
Why I’m here is easy to explain: »As old guy (50+ years) in »midlife crises«, I’d like a childhood’s dream to become true – to learn the »Art of Calligraphy«. Thanks to a link in a blog post by Alain Ariail I found your forum, abounding in hints and tips!«
What I can contribute is also simply explained: »Detailed information and digital sources (European Libraries as well as my personal archive) regarding the history of calligraphy in Europe (from Incunabula, Medieval Manuscripts up to Jan van de Velde, up to Hermann Zapf ... ; furthermore I can assist with Illustrator and Photoshop tips abd hints if desired!«

Thank you so much for your attention!
Arno
