Morning everyone!
I have been having a total ball with these little watercolour jewels this week, as you've probably seen on Instagram if you follow me
I thought I would show them here too.
So, my calligraphy society had a workshop on "whimsical pointed pen," and one of the very last things we looked at were from Joanne Fink's book
http://www.amazon.com/Zenspirations-Letters-Patterning-Joanne-Fink/dp/1574216996 (i hope it was this book! i've ordered it, anyway, so i'll find out soon
Totally fell in love. They're so bright and happy! So in my off-hours all week, instead of sleeping, I've been drawing little simple versals and filling them in with dangles and doodles and scribbles and splashes. They've slowly evolved from basically copying out of the book into something a bit sturdier, but I bet once the book arrives I'll go straight back to them.
Anyway, here we go. The versal forms aren't very good because I was mostly drawing from memory. Don't do it, kids, always have an exemplar. Yikes.
The above two were done in the last few minutes of the class, without a proper pen, which is why the ink is all smeary. These were my first attempts.
Two more attempts at a K. You can see I'm starting to lose the 'zentangle' energy and the letters are getting a bit more solid and defined. I guess I'm naturally inclined to heaviness ... or at least, that's what I tell my bathroom scales
I liked the way the colours came out in this M!
Most recent attempts and the ones I'm happiest with. Although seeing them at this size means the flaws are so obviousy ... all of these versals are actually less than 5cm square (about 2 inches).
These were a heap of fun, and the lovely Phyllis Macaluso has convinced me I should do a quick Periscope on them, so I guess you can keep an eye on my scope account if you're interested! Probably tomorrow morning before work - somewhere around 5 or 6am Melbourne time. (Mornings, I know, I know.)
