LOVELY! Not sure how I feel about the sharp point on the y but the flourishes are to die for!  ;)

Inktober 2023 / Re: Inktober 2023 - Preliminary
« on: September 29, 2023, 10:20:27 AM »
... just trying to form more of a habit of sitting down and doing something calligraphic and getting over the self-defeating reluctance that sets in from feeling my skills are not good.

This! A million times over! That is what I love about exchanges - they have forced me to sit down and actually create rather than just dream about it or sit and practice letters over and over. It has helped my design skills grow and my calligraphy - win, win! And I get beautiful mail in return - win, win, win!  ;D So happy you will be doing Inktober again and sharing with us.

Wonderful  example Ken! I wish I caught you earlier @Mark T as I would have suggested a go at Hunt 101’s as well. Another thing to keep in mind - sometimes the Nikko nibs have to be worn in a bit. They are rather sharp and so can be very scratchy at the beginning. I find a few rows of oval drills help wear them in enough to get them smooth sailing.

The pen should rest very delicately in your hand - only enough grip to hold it there. I will let you in on a little secret - no matter if using whole arm, muscle movement, or finger movement, the energy should come from a spot around the first two knuckles. It sounds weird but if you are relaxed and focus on feeling where the energy comes from while you write, all that is necessary is a slight energy from that area. Not the muscles used, the energy. Once you develop a groove, you will understand to what I am referencing. Once you feel that, you will be able to lighten your grip and let the letters flow through you.

It’s like when learning to drive a standard shift car - you have to have a “feel” for where the synergy is between the gas pedal and clutch (sorry for the youngsters that never had this opportunity!  ;D ).

Thank you for asking! I was hoping to go to print before the end of the year but I got a little sidetracked with another project (stay tuned for more info). But I am hoping it will be available by early next year.  :-*
