Uncial in Peoria IL
« on: May 20, 2023, 08:39:51 PM »
Hello,
I have been doing dip pen calligraphy for fun for several years on and off. This past year I have spent more time getting serious about it as a fun hobby.
Currently I only have interest and am focusing on uncial. I tried copperplate, but that style in general is not for me :) To me uncial has a arcane feel that is important and also a bit whimsical with some insular/half-uncial flair.
I have been getting some wonderful help from some in the community already.
Mainly i have been learning from Calligraphy A Comprehensive Guide to Beautiful Lettering by Jane Sullivan. And about a month ago I got The Calligraphers Bible and just this week Foundation of Calligraphy by Shiela Waters. Foundation of Calligraphy is my favorite book of the three. The depth is something that will take me some time to adjust and incorporate.

Welcome! We have a few uncial lovers here - myself included. I have really been enjoying seeing people’s pointed pen uncial recently. I agree, it has a bit of a whimsy too it that is very enticing. Looking forward to seeing some of your work!
