The book Palmer's Penmanship Budget has an Ornamental Penmanship section by F.B. Courtney. Something I found out the other day and might be worth sharing here. It starts at page 71.

Hope it is of interest to some.

Thank you for sharing this! Strangely enough, I was reading the Palmer Method last night. It is amazing how thorough and strict the instruction is - in particular regarding posture, position, and muscle movement. Fascinating. The text you shared has even more exemplars than the one I read so thanks! :)

Glad you liked it @Erica McPhee, and what a coincidence!
I understand that back in the days, Palmer was one of the most rigid methods around. As it was developed as a less laborious style than Spencerian, targeted at efficiency and stamina, I was kind of surprised to find an OP section in the book. Though it does not span a lot of pages, I still think it's quite nice and a good reference. It has some elements I recognise from Lessons in Dashy Writing, also by F.B. Courtney, an excellent scan of which can be found here (http://www.zanerian.com/CourtneyFBLessonsInDashyWriting.pdf).

Wow! It must be synchronicity (or some other synonym thereof).
I was trying to tidy up my little writing alcove last night when I got distracted :) by a Palmer's American Penman magazine I found lodged behind my desk. There was an amazing example of flourishing by Courtney that I had to sit and admire (much more engrossing than cleaning) and an ad on the back cover explaining that you could send a dollar to Mr Courtney for more in depth instruction.
Thank you for sharing the link to the Palmer's Budget Penmanship. It will be interesting see more OP by Courtney.
