Tools & Supplies / Oblique Ballpen
« on: February 10, 2016, 09:36:46 AM »
Hi, everyone!

I thought of sharing with you all a pen hack idea I got from Gail (@the_md_writes). I showed a mini demo here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BBg1nC9l_uG/

But basically, all you need to do is remove the ballpoint refill from your pen, wrap a small strip of tape around it, and slip inside the crow quill slot of the bullock flange. It's a perfect tool for drills on the go without worrying about ink spills :)

Tools & Supplies / Mold on Higgins Eternal Ink?
« on: February 17, 2015, 02:26:07 PM »
I haven't used this ink for a couple of weeks and when I'm about to use it today, I found some foreign substance swimming on the surface. Is that mold? I've never experienced mold on inks so I don't know what it looks like. Is it still safe to use the ink or should I discard completely? Help!!!  :'(

Coffee & Nib-bles / Setting the mood for practice
« on: January 20, 2015, 12:51:24 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm curious how one sets up the mood for their calligraphy practice?

I don't have a personal desk, nor a dedicated space (yet!). You will find me stalking on Instagram posts before doing my drills on the kitchen counter (often times, with cookies and dark hot choco!) :) Seeing dreamy handwriting really motivates me to level up my practice.

What about you? And...do you have a playlist?

Introductions / Hello from the Yellow Brick Road :)
« on: January 16, 2015, 04:53:03 PM »
Hi everyone,

My name is Judy. I'm originally from the Philippines, but now live in Kansas with my very own pair of sparkly red shoes ;) I came here to do my Master's in Software Engineering. Yes, I may be classified as a (computer) geek, but I really am a foodie at heart. I have date nights every Friday with my kitchen, baking to my heart's content.

Just a couple of months ago, I took the (major) leap to the wonderful world of calligraphy. I will be forever grateful to my friend, Mandy, who gave me a quick calligraphy-101 sesh in a coffee shop. I was told that practice is key, and she was right. I was able to see results, but not instantly, though. I have discovered patience and diligence were part of the essentials, too!

I know there's soooo much more to learn (and shout-out to Erica for allowing me to join the forum), but I'm already proud of what I have accomplished so far. I never knew I had it in me. No exaggerations, but for the first time in years, I got to appreciate my own handwriting.  :)

Every night is now a date night with my pen, with occasional cookies (or muffins!) and dark hot chocolate on the side.

I am really really excited to be here and am hoping to meet many new friends.

Happy weekend!

ps
I have a confession: I'm slowly becoming a (nib and pen) hoarder, too. Well...that's because everything I see are all dreamy and worth having. I'm sure you'd all agree. :D
