Did any of mine make it?

Salman's got returned with the most post office chicken scratch I've ever seen on a returned mail. :(

Introductions / Re: Hello from the Atlanta area!

Hi Bethany!
I'm originally from Atlanta and began my calligraphy journey there. If you're able, I highly suggest taking a class with Anne Elser at Binder's Art Supply in the city. She's an absolutely amazing instructor and her work is stunning. Welcome to FF!

UPDATE: the zip-code-less envelope made it all the way to California without an ugly barcode, rerouting or a tear! GREAT SUCCESS.

it just took 3 weeks. :/

The perk of living in a small town is that I hop in line, say I want to hand cancel my stack of envelopes, and they hand me the stamp and I step to the side and go to town. Also, getting that little stamp to work right is really hard! Especially on these really smooth, buttery deep purple envelopes I love. The con of living on this island is mail is SO SLOW. seriously. Count on a few extra days to arrive and if you're sending mail, a couple extra days for it to even get off island.

Debbie - Atlanta is the worst. I would have things not show up or have my address scratched off with a new zip code. No, you fools. I know where I live, thanks and that zip code is not it.

Mike - We've been in a couple exchanges together and my mail to you, in the same city, took longer than mail headed to Singapore. What a bust, USPS.

I recently sent a letter with confetti to California and it arrived torn. I like to think I left a trail of fabulous coast to coast. I recently left off a zip code on a really embellished envelope....fingers are crossed it makes it!

I can't wait to try this! I've loved this galaxy look for such a long time but haven't sat down and gotten messy with it yet.

welcome to the party! I've got good friends in Nashville, one of which is a calligrapher. Let me know if you ever want more local calligra-friends!

I miss calligracamp already. I can't for Portland. Partly because it's IAMPETH and partly because it's PORTLAND!

This is one of my favorite weeks of the whole year and I'm especially grateful for it this year. Pretend you've soaked up sun on Miami Beach your entire life (with SPF on of course, because melanoma is for the birds) and you've suddenly found yourself in Ireland. That's what living on a resort island is like. You guys are my sunlight and I tried to soak up as much as I could in such a short time.

I had so much catching up to do with old friends, so many new faces to meet and dance stupidly in front of and it was such a whirlwind. It was a struggle to connect and re-connect with everyone - I typically didn't know what class I was in until the morning of! (but I have to say, I loved them all). - I'm pretty sure there's people I never even got to see! I want to go back in time, slow everything down and spend quality time with each and every one of you. I have so many new places and faces to visit throughout the year now!

And also eat more Swedish Fish. If you saw Melissa or I at any point in the week, we were probably carting around a giant 5 lb bag of the fish getting our lifetime supply of Red Dye #40 in between the pen strokes. A good friend of mine who lives in Nashville came and played piano and guitar one night. And we made up a song about hot tubs. I can't sing but I can write a song like nobodies' business.

My highlights on an official level were that all my classes built upon each other. The teachers were wonderful and it was great to have a class on Tuesday that directly fed into Thursday's class. The organization is at a tipping point this year with the exponential growth and I think that while no one is envying Alesia Zorn's job right now, I think she has a strong vision and desire to get this ship to sail and not sink. IAMPETH has hit puberty y'all and it's gonna be just as rough as your own. Acne, growing pains and a hell of a lot of hormones it has to work through. It has to figure out exactly who it is and who it wants to be. But don't worry, because like most teenagers, IAMPETH knows how to throw down at a party. Late nights, letter lovers and laughs. Except instead of running behind the bleachers to make out, we dashed off to our rooms to bring down more art supplies and refill our plastic wine cups. We're the craziest group of sane people.

I've realized I just need to get my life together and start a blog.

Schin and I do most of our calligraphy work while on Skype. It beats the 3rd Netflix movie in a row.

I think I'm Valarie Williams on there.
or Idontgiveaclam.

I can't remember....
but join us! and Emily Fitzpatrick often joins us as well.

« on: June 09, 2015, 11:17:06 PM »
I'm here because Schin
told me to write some haikus
but I'm not very good

I think I messed up
are they calligraphy poems?
so does this one count?

I only have 5 nibs
so I keep reusing old ones
scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch

seriously they
sound like nails on a chalkboard
just one more use, one!

and then I promise
I'll bust out a brand new nib
but then I'll have four

and have to order more
but I hate online shopping
so I'll keep scratching
