Thanks!! And yes, it was... the closest I'd used before was a foam chisel-like thingy to do the large lettering in the piece I posted here http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=416.0.
I usually don't do freestyle things, but this was awesomely fun, to tell the truth.

The map I got from this image:

 

I chose to  redo the letteting freehand, since the original captions were a bit too US-centric...
