Open Flourish | General Discussion / gum arabic

Hi friends, I finally purchased some gum Arabic so I could but on the ends of my nibs. I read on DeAnns websight to do that. So when I did the ink will not flow at all of the nib. I know some of you do not use it but I am wondering what I am going wrong?

paid $2.00 for it at goodwill. I have got my best calligraphy books from there. I have not looked at it yet.

Copperplate, Engrosser's Script, Roundhand Calligraphy / loops on ascenders or the lack of

As I practice I notice my ascending loops don't always match. So I have started not putting the loops and just making straight lines. I have seen beautiful writing from Ken Fraser and George Bickham do this method. I was wondering what it is called and is it traditionally correct. And is it basically okay that I do it. Of course I would practice the other way as well, but mostly doing it with a straight lines because it looks better to me, unless I am going to do some kind of flourishing loops. What do you guys think? Now off to bed early morning to the hospital.  Brad

Coffee & Nib-bles / Fun day of tubing

Today my family and I were boating in Lake Lanier (Milonguera I know you know where that is) tubing having a great time. We hit a hard wave and my my Mother flew up and cracked her head on the metal part of the seat putting a good gash on her head. To top it off she landed on her back breaking it, she is in the hospital now, hopefully  going to come home tomorrow to heal and go to the orthopedic doctor. Both of my brothers are RN's but did not matter so much on the boat. Just to stop the blood. I was scared to Death I thought I was going to loose my Mother. I would appriate any prayers or thoughts for her to get better. Thanks so much.  Brad

Now I am fully aware that most of you if not all of you have lives. I however do not have much of any. I check this board a couple of times every hour unless I am sleeping, which is not very often. When I see there is nothing new posted or a response to a post I get depressed. So come on people  drop everything and start posting lol.

I was showing my Father in Law who has been very successful in life, big home, nice cars and even a airplane my pointed pen and broad edge pen calligraphy, I value his opinion very much. He looked at it and said "mmm it looks nice but know what else can do that" I replied what? "He said a computer I just thought to myself WOW! But kept my mouth shut out of respect. Kinda hurt my little feelings a bit

I received a letter from my favorite calligrapher Master Scribe Paul Antonio from London and wanted to show it off. I am really proud of it and put it in a crappy frame (sorry) in my work area for inspiration!

I purchased Stratmore parchment paper from the store it is 60 pounds, acid-free has a calligraphy pen on the front page. And of course it blots. Wasting my money again on something that does not work. Anyone have luck with this paper?

What is the difference between  Spencerian Script and Spencerian Ladies Hand? Beside the obvious, why are they separated?

Digital Design / Question?

What would it be called when someone starts calligraphy design with a pencil, them goes back over it with pen and ink and then puts it in a computer i guess vectorize it. Fix it all the flaws with photoshop or illustrator, then put it in a publication ie. magazine, website or whatever.  The reason I ask is I  would like to youtube and watch from beginning to end. I have seen a few of these and really enjoyed them. Maybe there are more out there I really don't know what to search for. Any suggestions.

Hello eveyone, today when i starting practicing my holder starting twisting due to being slippery. I guess thsi will only get worst at spring gets here and it gets warmer. Any suggestions?
