It's always been cool, just some people failed to recognize it's coolness for a while.  ;D

Came across this article today. Especially exciting for those of us in Rochester, NY!

After so many years I came across a video which shows how wrong is our grip when we write. The traditional way to write is very different. Now that I have started learning Spenc. Im finding it really difficult to have the traditional grip. Assuming school kids tmrw will be taking interest in Calligraphy and some will be Master Penman, isn't it important that we embed these basis habits and proper technique right from their school days. Its so difficult to unlearn what you been doing all your life.

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying 'I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones'.

I cannot imagine a world trying to rebuild itself and communicate with others when they do not have the skill to write, or read, a hand written word.
"The expert at anything was once a beginner." - Helen Hayes

Found this interesting also:
http://www.jhnewsandguide.com/valley/feature/pride-and-penmanship/article_4aaedd75-87df-527a-8d96-ed6877299664.html

"'A first impression is important', he said. 'If your handwriting is good, people will focus on the content of your writing, not the quality. I don't think you should write something that is important to you and not be writing your best.'"

I wonder if your handwriting is "too good," truly beautiful/expert, if the reader might be be also distracted from the content.

Thanks for the interesting reads.  Too good is as good as it gets to be better than printed by some machine.

I think Alfred Fairbanks would tell you that it is most inviting to read a legible, fair hand.  Whatever the content is, the mind is more receptive and accept, agreeable when the writing is not illegible.

From time to time I've hinted darkly about the state of handwriting tuition in British schools - here's a little insight:

Well, that's certainly interesting. I was impressed by the 4 and under winner, and the 5 and 6 year olds looked good for the age. But the staff winner? I liked the 8 year old winner better than that staff winner.

What a shame that so little training in penmanship is being offered.

That "staff" writing is terrible!  I had to guess at several of the words.  The intent of writing is to convey a message & if someone can't read what is written, I do believe that the effort has failed!

Don't mind the staff ... Look towards the future.  I am sure the staff did see that he/she needed improvements.  My scribble was undecipherable .. until now.
