Wow, that letter from Brian Walker is exquisite

Am I the only one who finds a great deal of reproduced Spencerian extremely difficult to read and therefore enjoy and evaluate?

In all honesty, I just can't read the example of the letter. All  I can make out is very faint, largely indecipherable writing interspersed with occasional blobs of shading. It may well be beautiful (knowing the work of the writer, it probably is) but can anyone, hand on heart, say that they can read it throughout? And if not, how can it be evaluated?

This is a problem with much of Spencerian which is usually written very small and with fine strokes. It just doesn't stand up to photographic reproduction......or else, my computer monitor needs replacing!!

It was difficult at first, Ken, but it was certainly readable--I just had to get into whisper mode.

Yes, it's difficult to read - it is FADED. It's 11 years old but the ink has already faded quite a bit. So scanning it was difficult. In person it is easier to read but still difficult because of the fading. Otherwise, I find the Spencerian itself easy on the eyes.
