I just opened mine a few weeks ago (I think I bought it two years ago) and it's stinky. I think it was Heather Held that said to keep McCaffery's in the refrigerator between use.

Yes I have had to bake my paper to dry ink. I think it was Noodlers. Lowest heat setting for 10-20 mins. like Sybille said.

@Estefa and @Inked botanicals, agreed, it is lovely to work with (the butter factor) and it just looks elegant, probably because of its warm tone. I like BPW but sometimes the starkness of the white can be a little cold/sterile.

I've used Ivory for personal letters, and I noticed that it will smudge with fingers. I know of at least two letters that did not make it to its final destination, and I think it's because of this reason. Grubby mail carrier fingers!

I still use it for practice, but I think you all are wise to stay away from it for commission work. Sad!

I add a very small amount of yellow ochre gouache to Bleed Proof white to take off the starkness of the white.... otherwise it feels too Christmassy if I'm using red envelopes!

@Scarlet Blue That's such a great idea. Maybe the color should be named after you, although it could be very confusing given your name! Scarlet's Ivory ;)

@handmadeletters  ;D
You can mix any gouache colour with Bleed Proof White and it looks really good on dark or black paper.

That's really interesting, @Scarlet Blue – especially as it says on the jar not to mix Bleed Proof White … so I never attempted to do so. It really writes much nicer than white Gouache, I have no idea why!

I'll give it a try now for sure :)!

Ha Ha!!! I've never read the label!! I just went by the rule that it's okay to mix like with like... i.e... water based with water based. I usually mix colours in little plastic dinky pots so they last for ages. There was that time when I mixed something into the dregs of my Bleed Proof White jar and it went rock hard.... it wasn't gouache though, so yes, unpleasant accidents can happen!

Wow.. There is so much info on 'McCaffery's Ivory. Im sure the manufacturer himself wouldn't have done so much research.
Just an idea this forum can also be product testers analyser as there are so many members who's using it. Like nibs, inks, obliques, fountain pens etc... Imagine a guarantee seal on a product saying 'FF Approved' :D
