Dark Envelopes
« on: August 01, 2017, 05:37:38 AM »
Hello?

What ink or paint would the experts here recommend for addressing a dark coloured envelope?

Please bear in mind that I will have to source via the internet in most cases.

Many thanks for your patience and help.

You could use Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White.
You can read about this ink and other white inks on the great blog of The Postman's Knock:

And I really like gold on dark envelopes.
You can use Finetec, but I often use the Liquid Metal Ink in Classic Gold of C. Roberson & Co, as that is a waterproof ink. I bought it at Scribblers: https://www.scribblers.co.uk/product-category/inks/calligraphy-inks/liquid-metal-inks/

You can also use lighter gouache colors, but they will also not be waterproof.
I have some examples of gouache on black paper on my IG account:

Hope this helps!

Schin has a nice video on Dr. Martin's Bleedproof white if you are interested in seeing it used.

Much thanks for the replies.  As I am a huge fan of Schin's work I think I'll go for the Dr Martin's bleedproof white in the first instance.  Not sure if understand what gouache is, or how it is prepared and used, so may keep that suggestion on the back burner for now.

Really appreciate the help!  :D

Gouache is an opaque watercolour, invariably supplied in tubes and diluted to taste.  I have it on good authority that a smidgen of Zinc White gouache in one's Bleedproof White will open up a world of hairlines fine enough to embarrass a spider ... do not ask me to define a smidgen, though.

That's an interesting idea. Know of any examples I could see, with and without the gouache?

Have fun with the ink, it's a good choice!
In the beginning it might take some time to find a good consistency, but once you found it, it works great! And I also noticed that some nibs work better with this ink than others. Just experiment a bit  8)
