Greetings!
« on: August 16, 2017, 03:18:54 AM »
I hope this is in order. Whilst not entirely disinterested in calligraphy, neither am I sufficiently interested to take it up. So my reason for being here is because of some calligraphy equipment that belonged to my late Father.

He used them, primarily, for seating plans for official dinners and tended to use Ye Olde Englishe! There is some equipment that I'm unsre about. It looks like a geometry set but, if I have it right, there are 'nibs'(?) whereby I believe ink is supposed to be placed betwen two 'blades'.

I have photos of most of this equipment and the T&Cs say that For Sale ads are allowed in the 'Marketplace' forum which I have yet to find.

As I said, I  hope all this is in order and maybeit would be fitting to post an example photograph. (If I can!)

I can't at the mo'.

I had to reduce the size of my photos to be able to post them. Is this calligraphy equipment or not? I'm unsure.:

That's a rather nice set of draughting instruments.  It's fairly rare to find all the bow compasses in good order, and it seems that everything is present and correct.  You are right about the ruling pens: the width of the line is set by adjusting the gap between the blades and ink is introduced either with a brush or a dip pen.  They're also used by some calligraphers for splashy, gestural work.

By the way, I don't think I've mentioned this but, as you can probably tell by the timing of my posts, I'm in the UK. North West England to be precise.
