Good Morning!

Since July I´m looking for someone that give free course, to my reality - I can´t pay in momento.. I almost find, but the list was full...

If someone have an indication, I will be glad for try.

Here in Brazil, there are some calligraphers, but the price is expensive too, the courses are almost about "Lettering" and I want, in moment, learn Copperplate.

I feel I´m in the right way, training every day and basic strokes, but I´m afraid use NIB.

Sorry for chose this place to tell about my plans, but I hope here I can have some advice for my questions.

Thanks for sharing and - again - sorry for my English - can have some mistakes..

Goog Fryday and My Best Regards

Roseli :-*

PS: I´m publishing my "evolution" - @flyrobrasileira (in Instagram)  :)

There is a wonderful free source for copperplate lessons.
You can load it directly to iPads and Macs.
If you are PC - you can still get all of the information and videos - through the website and on YouTube.

Dr. Joe Vitolo has given the calligraphic community a wonderful gift:

Script in the Copperplate Style

http://www.zanerian.com

He will have tips on using nibs which should help you.
Remember, if you are having trouble with a nib - you need to find a paper/ink/nib combination that works.
Many people recommend starting with  a Nikko G nib - which is somewhat stiff.
In the beginning, be satisfied with lighter shades.
After you get the feel, you can gradually work on heavier shades.

Post examples of your work if you would like feedback.

I second Dr. Joe's lessons. They are fantastic and his videos are slow and easy to understand. I also like to watch the videos on Instagram of @anintran. Fantastic. You may have to scroll down a bit to see the Copperplate as she has moved on to broad pen.  :)

The Washington Calligraphers Guild has a really great virtual lineup early next year.
If you ever wanted to learn with Gemma Black before she retires, she's teaching a two-day Versals class.
And Carrie Imai is teaching a fun Italic variations workshop.
https://www.calligraphersguild.org/workshops/2021/

Right now workshops are available only to members but will be opened up to non-members in early December. I'm the registrar for the WCG, so feel free to ask me questions.

A lot of guilds have been offering great online workshops. I just saw that next Spring 2021 Society of Scribes in NY will be offering a Madarasz workshop with our very own Schin Loong.

I hope students support regional guilds and take these online offerings.
