Wow you both had such lovely logos submissions. @AnasaziWrites, I love the simplicity of yours. A very strong logo!

Also...TWO HUNDRED SUBMISSIONS!?! That is insane.

Thanks for sharing this, Dave. Looking forward to watching. I had heard Rajiv had something up his sleeve and I was crossing my fingers that it would be related to lettering. Can't wait to watch!

Introductions / Re: Hi from Wisconsin!
« on: June 02, 2020, 06:11:11 PM »

One of my questions is, what is a good way to go about finding a calligraphy teacher/mentor? I would love to take an in-person class or to know an experienced calligrapher I could go to to ask questions (although, now that I'm in this forum, I suppose I could always ask here!).

Thank you so much! Looking forward to interacting with all of you!  :)

Great to meet you @sarahpoppie! In regards to mentorship, where are you in Wisconsin? I know of someone in Milwaukee I can connect you with. If is unavailable to help, she may be able to connect you to others.

Kinda like the Dundies!!  I'm a fan!  ;D ;D ;D

Also...been binging the Office Ladies podcast a little bit too long...haha!

Oh my gosh, me too! Obsessed with that podcast. And this is a brilliant idea for a theme...the fine work award...whitest sneakers award...don't go in there after me...  ;D

Love this exchange idea. May hold off signing up to make sure I can commit, but I am all for seeing the photos of what everyone makes!

Tools & Supplies / Re: Bleedproof White Crystalized

@Inked botanicals Thanks for sharing your experience, Alba!  It is fairly humid here, too.  I have had this happen before but only along the top of bottle - not totally encrusted within the bottle.  It was just so extreme and I had just used the bottle within the week so... what gives???

I still love the stuff.  It is by far my favorite white. :)

Thanks for reaching out to them, @Bianca M. I'm with you–even with the pain of the crystals, I'll keep buying it haha!

@Bianca M update! My BPW is mostly empty now, so I've just been adding drops of water to the container. But alas, one day I opened it and the bottom was ALL crystallized. I added water and was able to reconstitute some of it, but some small crystals ended up on the page, particularly in the thick Copperplate strokes. When I erased my guides, those crystals swiped across my paper leaving little white streaks and small gaps in the strokes from where they crystals had been. For the post part, those streaks come off with an eraser but I'm going to have to go back in.

I had let the water/crystals sit for several days and still had some crystals. I'm gonna go ahead and say that if this happens to me again, I'm going to get a fresh pot. Just thought it was crazy that you had JUST posted about this!

@Bianca M you are not alone! I was actually talking with a friend about this pretty recently. I don't necessarily have advice, but know that it's not just you! Haha. I've had mostly crystallization near the lid as Erica mentioned.

Did you try reconstituting with water? Curious as to whether that fixed the issue.

Hi Calligrafriends!

I wanted to share about an exciting project I've been working on with @Ajab Rajvir Jandiala.

Today we officially launched The Calligraphy Podcast! It's a space for calligraphers to talk about share, and grow in their art–and cultivate community along the way.

We just released our second episode and I thought it might be something our Flourish friends may want to hear. We've learned that there are many people who agree that if we can't be writing in calligraphy, we may as well listen to people talk about it! Already we've had so many great conversations with calligraphers and look forward to incorporating the things we're learning into future episodes. Episodes are released every other week. We'll talk about a different topic every episode and look forward to having some great guests on the show.

I hope you'll consider giving it a listen. Below are a few links to the show. You can also participate in the conversations about each episode on our Instagram @thecalligraphypodcast.

Spotify

Google Play

Stitcher

I hope you enjoy. If you give it a listen, let me know what you think!

P.S. Erica, if this post should go somewhere else let me know :).

Here's both my personal card (done on an iPad Pro) and my calligra-greeting (all by hand).

Everyone's work is so beautiful! Calligraphy holiday cards are the best!

Great hearing what everyone's up to. Erica, that cake and the cupcakes look SO good! Who know you had so many skills?!

I got back from IAMPETH last week and have been hustling on a project that I can't post photos of, but is so rewarding. My client's child wrote a bunch of poetry during high school and she's asked me to compile all the poems into a book with illustrations. I've been having a lot of fun combining calligraphy with artwork, it's stretching my brain a lot but its so refreshing to do something different. Next week I'll be back to envelopes, but I love the variety of work we get sometimes! Plus, I got to tie in some art and Italic techniques I learned in Milwaukee, so that's always fun!

Wow! This is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
