I have always had issues with my normal hand, which is strongly based on italic, being affected by working on other styles. My recovery technique is to slow right down for my normal hand and gradually bring it back up to speed. Interesting that doesn’t in turn affect the hand I’m working on. I’ve never figured out why that is.

I think both require intensive attention to details! They each offer their own distinct challenges and that one isn’t necessarily easier than the other, they are just different.

Welcome on board. Calligraphy is fun and rewarding but it has the strange side effect of making you lose time. You settle down to practice some hand or other and before you know it the clock has struck midnight, the cat is still outside yowling to be let in and you realise you haven’t eaten since lunchtime.
Get lots of different nibs and try different styles of hand. There are lots of posts about working out which hand you enjoy most and @jeanwilson has plenty of expertise and experience in this area. Play lots and explore.

I’ve just finished listening to this and it was great! I think my favourite part was where you @Erica McPhee described calligraphy as meditative. I totally agree, it is a great example of mindfulness, focussing on the task at hand and not letting your mind wander. It is a great means of developing focus and demonstrates to me how important that focus is on every part of every line and curve I put on the paper.
