Hi Calligrafriends!

I wanted to share about an exciting project I've been working on with @Ajab Rajvir Jandiala.

Today we officially launched The Calligraphy Podcast! It's a space for calligraphers to talk about share, and grow in their art–and cultivate community along the way.

We just released our second episode and I thought it might be something our Flourish friends may want to hear. We've learned that there are many people who agree that if we can't be writing in calligraphy, we may as well listen to people talk about it! Already we've had so many great conversations with calligraphers and look forward to incorporating the things we're learning into future episodes. Episodes are released every other week. We'll talk about a different topic every episode and look forward to having some great guests on the show.

I hope you'll consider giving it a listen. Below are a few links to the show. You can also participate in the conversations about each episode on our Instagram @thecalligraphypodcast.

I hope you enjoy. If you give it a listen, let me know what you think!

P.S. Erica, if this post should go somewhere else let me know :).

Here's both my personal card (done on an iPad Pro) and my calligra-greeting (all by hand).

Everyone's work is so beautiful! Calligraphy holiday cards are the best!

Great hearing what everyone's up to. Erica, that cake and the cupcakes look SO good! Who know you had so many skills?!

I got back from IAMPETH last week and have been hustling on a project that I can't post photos of, but is so rewarding. My client's child wrote a bunch of poetry during high school and she's asked me to compile all the poems into a book with illustrations. I've been having a lot of fun combining calligraphy with artwork, it's stretching my brain a lot but its so refreshing to do something different. Next week I'll be back to envelopes, but I love the variety of work we get sometimes! Plus, I got to tie in some art and Italic techniques I learned in Milwaukee, so that's always fun!

Wow! This is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

@Erica McPhee that's exactly what I was looking for. They want something more buttoned up, almost collegiate, so these resources are really helpful. Both of these books have decent previews on Google Books and I'm already inspired. Thank you!

Wow! Very cool that you still have that. Talk about a neat way to track progress.

Also, I live in Norfolk now! Small world :).

@Vlatorn @Erica McPhee  I'm glad it's not just me! Maybe I'll do a calligrapher version of a page from the driver's manual. I think one might overlook any subliminal messages when it's written in Copperplate and brushed with watercolor!  ;D

Hey Flourish Friends,

Does anyone know of any books or resources that have some beautiful crests in them? I figured this kind of falls under engrossing. I'm working on a logo for a company that wants a custom crest and I always love looking back at older works for inspiration.

Any ideas? Please and thank you!

Like... I want to do this exchange, but I really don't know how to make something that isn't sassy. ;D Let's just say my Jersey comes out when I'm behind a steering wheel... ;)

When I think of something that isn't a passive aggressive message to use your blinker, I will sign up! Haha!

But really, love this idea! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

@Erica McPhee  @Sally Ellington ladies, these are STUNNING. Oh. My. Word. The colors! The flowers. All of it is gorgeous! Amazing work!

Really interesting.

Contrary to the author, I actually love Instagram stories. I try and use them more to share my process or a little piece of my life. For instance, I recently did a little light engrossing and and shared my whole process in little snippets from pencil, to ink, to paint. Then I shared an image of the final piece that evening.

I love getting an inside look on the real person behind an Instagram account through stories. It relieves us of some of those assumptions about a person's "perfect" life because we see them in their kitchens or their messy office.

I will say that I do not like new algorithm and I wish they'd bring back the chronological order. I don't understand why Instagram makes it so hard for someone to share a piece of their life. Facebook Pages are worse in that area though, the engagement is SO low unless you pay money to promote your posts.

Lastly, there are very few calligraphers in my area, so all my calligrafriends are on Instagram. I would feel so isolated without my Insta friends and this forum community!

But to be fair, that first image with the illuminated letter is straight up art, not like everyone was engrossing every letter or note page they wrote haha!

But it is sad when I know people my age who can't even READ cursive, let alone write in it. *face palm*
