I got to this late but I too am glad you took the time and effort... I've gotten quite sloppy of late and you have inspired me to straighten up!

Tools & Supplies / Re: Cleaning wooden pen holders
« on: April 25, 2016, 12:48:57 PM »
Hi Janis
If it's wood like you say it is and you bought it commercially it will have a finish on it. In that case take out your nib and wipe it down with denatured alcohol. That's the mildest solvent and won't hurt your pen. If you have an unfinished wood holder try the alcohol or just paint your holder.

There is more you can do but I think the steps I've given should be fine and the next ones will require some more information from you.this should work if not tell me what brand you have and a pic.

One of the reasons the old masters used to wrap their holders with string.

Spencerian Script / Re: Spencerian Shading

Yes I find this very interesting too, and thanks for posting Mike. Some Spencerian I'm seeing is quite boring.  Almost seems repetitive, regimented and stiff, but that first example  by the old man is delightful... to my eyes anyway. To mix it up a little offers an personal artistic approach and smart balancing of the shading  that only seems to come with experience, I find quite attractive. Whereas the strict TDA shading type rules really look monotonous to me after a while.

Good I just recently bought several ...all bad. Would love to try one that works again.

Thanks timely reminder Ken.

Once again I'm in awe Ken... What hand of all did or do you find the most difficult?

Very cool I like the tilting part as well has many uses. I wonder how long a person could sit in that posture? Looks as though their backs were quite straight.

Very impressive looks like an original manuscript.
How's the seagull feather compared to others? Great idea, especially with the reservoir!
