Introductions / Hello from Drew
« on: November 11, 2019, 12:48:17 PM »
From @Drew
Hi All - I joined this forum at the beginning of the year.  I have little experience in calligraphy, but I am experienced in watercolor.  I have had a very strong desire for some time to use calligraphy in my artwork.  I ended up needing major surgery shortly after joining, and that resulted in a lengthy detour.    I am now in a position to get back to this pursuit and look forward to engaging with all of you.  Take care.

Open/Active Exchanges / Holiday Hellos 2019
« on: November 11, 2019, 12:44:51 PM »
The 2019 Holiday Exchange sign ups are now closed! This is our last exchange of the year. Please remember a few things before signing up:

1. We have members from all over the world and many different religions so Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and many others' celebrations will be represented, expected, and welcomed.

2. If you did not complete a past exchange you signed up for, you cannot participate.

3. If you will be busy and cannot meet your obligation, please do not sign up. It is not OK to think, "Life happens" and not fulfill your obligation. It is OK if circumstances require you to send your exchanges late, however, you will still not be able to participate in an exchange until yours are sent.

4.  You must be a registered, activated member and you must have made at least one post, introductory or otherwise, in order to participate.

Sign Up Deadline: Friday, November 22, 2019

Postmark Deadline: Friday, December 13, 2019

YOU MUST SIGN UP VIA THE FORM ABOVE OR YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED SIGNED UP.

As always, the following guidelines apply:

1. Calligraphy should be used on both your exchange insert (if there is one) and envelope.
2. You will send a card to every member on your list (typically 7-9 members).
3. Must be related to the theme.
4. All skill levels welcome!
5. If you end up not being able to participate, please contact me ASAP. If you don't send your cards after the list has gone out, you will not be able to participate in the next exchange.
6. You must sign up before the deadline. No late sign ups.
7. HAVE FUN!

Coffee & Nib-bles / Calligraphy in the UK
« on: October 23, 2019, 02:33:02 PM »
I canít believe it - but it seems like we may actually be able to take a trip to the UK next summer. I have found long lost family on my Dadís side and we are going to visit. I have always dreamed of visiting England, Ireland, and Scotland and now itís (hopefully) coming true!

Any calligraphy places/stores/stuff I should see while Iím there? My family lives in Devon (or Devonshire - not quite sure which is correct). Or any places in general that are a ďdonít missĒ for a once in a lifetime trip?

Thanks!  ;D

Hi Flourish Friends,
Just an FYI, I will be doing a livefeed video on Facebook tomorrow hosted by my first guild, The Casco Bay Scribes of Maine, at 1:00p. I will be going over our home page, FAQ, supplies, and how the forum generally works, then answering any questions.

Please join us if you are interested!  ;D

Hi Flourish Friends!

Attached is a new Copperplate (Engrosser's Script) exemplar with ductus and guidelines I have developed using sizes and spacing from exemplars of the old masters, most notably Earl A. Lupfer.

As I worked to improve my Engrosser's Script, I found it important to have specific guidelines to help me make more consistent letterforms. I have tweaked this quite a bit and am happy with how it has developed.

As always, please let me know you have any questions. I hope you enjoy!  ;D

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Boogie Board Calligraphy
« on: July 20, 2019, 12:21:41 PM »
This is my new favorite thing! I just bought this Boogie Board and have been practicing calligraphy on it nonstop. It's so cool and will save so much paper and ink. You can even use a calligraphy pen on it! I made a YouTube review so you can see how it works.

It has already improved my whole arm movement calligraphy and flourishing! You can see the one I bought at my amazon affiliate link .

Anyone else having fun with one of these?  ;D
