I really like everyone's responses. And this is a very thoughtful gesture Mike. It shows you took the time and thought into sending your condolences.
I have done a few different covers for funeral programs and Spencerian is a very good choice. I added a very small flourish and even a few floral flourishes/watercolor that made it soft. Minimal but beautiful enough it felt like an extra effort was made.

Hi Laura,
I'm so happy you have found us! We share so much in common. I miss our beloved Maine! I homeschooled my three children off and on over the years (wish it could have been all ON!).  ;D

Have you seen Timothy Bott's work with the scripture? It's so beautiful and inspiring. I have his Bible and Portraits of the Word:

(affiliate Amazon link but the best way to show you):
He has many, many more. Lovely work!

Try not to get overwhelmed by all the info here. Just take it a day at a time and you will find lots of great tips and info as you go.  :)

The lists have gone out! Please contact me ASAP if you think you signed up and you did not receive an email. I have still been having trouble emailing to yahoo especially.

Also, please check your list right away to be sure your address is correct. I double checked all of the lists this time so hopefully there aren't any issues.  ;D

Have fun!  :-*

Oh wow! This explains why I can no longer see things posted on Pinterest unless I log in on my computer. That is a shame. I love Instagram but rarely go on anymore because I see an ad every 3-4 posts so it is basically scrolling through ads. Additionally, they spy on me - advertising things I have just talked about like Fish Sauce and door knobs & handles. Seriously, no one will convince me they just happened to post an ad about Fish Sauce a few minutes after I mentioned I needed to buy some for a recipe!
Thank you for posting the article. I will try to post more images here at Flourish in 2020! ;D

Spencerian Script / Re: Writing Small

I suppose we should give them props for getting it there. Such a shame though. But I suspect what happened was it went through the machine first, the machine processed it but then it was kicked out and someone had to write the address in the corner. But since it was upside down, they had to cancel it again by hand.

Bravo to you Mike. They were gorgeous and a delight to see!  :D

This arrived yesterday! I giggle every time I look at it. I am just marveling over how tiny you wrote @AnasaziWrites ! It's incredible. Even my 14 year old was impressed!  ;D

What fun!!! And they are so elegant and beautiful! We *must* do a tiny exchange next year.

And I agree - someone at the post office was a bit passive aggressive with that cancellation. Kind of like, "I'll show you how much I liked having to hand cancel this envelope and ruin your beautiful mail."  >:( :(

Hi @Matt ,
I love that you are making homemade gifts! What a treasure for your gift recipients. There are a few resources for layout. This is one of the hardest parts of progressing your calligraphy work! I am going to put it on my list of things to concentrate on in 2020 and maybe even post a tutorial.

Here are a few links to get you started:

Design Tips for Calligraphers - Book Resources

The layout and design books by Alan Furber linked in that post are still the best resources available I think.

Certificate Design

This is the Design and Layout Board

Hope that helps!  ;D

Introductions / Hello from Drew

From @Drew
Hi All - I joined this forum at the beginning of the year.  I have little experience in calligraphy, but I am experienced in watercolor.  I have had a very strong desire for some time to use calligraphy in my artwork.  I ended up needing major surgery shortly after joining, and that resulted in a lengthy detour.    I am now in a position to get back to this pursuit and look forward to engaging with all of you.  Take care.

Open/Active Exchanges / Holiday Hellos 2019
« on: November 11, 2019, 12:44:51 PM »
The 2019 Holiday Exchange sign ups are now closed! This is our last exchange of the year. Please remember a few things before signing up:

1. We have members from all over the world and many different religions so Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and many others' celebrations will be represented, expected, and welcomed.

2. If you did not complete a past exchange you signed up for, you cannot participate.

3. If you will be busy and cannot meet your obligation, please do not sign up. It is not OK to think, "Life happens" and not fulfill your obligation. It is OK if circumstances require you to send your exchanges late, however, you will still not be able to participate in an exchange until yours are sent.

4.  You must be a registered, activated member and you must have made at least one post, introductory or otherwise, in order to participate.

Sign Up Deadline: Friday, November 22, 2019

Postmark Deadline: Friday, December 13, 2019

As always, the following guidelines apply:

1. Calligraphy should be used on both your exchange insert (if there is one) and envelope.
2. You will send a card to every member on your list (typically 7-9 members).
3. Must be related to the theme.
4. All skill levels welcome!
5. If you end up not being able to participate, please contact me ASAP. If you don't send your cards after the list has gone out, you will not be able to participate in the next exchange.
6. You must sign up before the deadline. No late sign ups.
