Spencerian Script / Re: No drills club
« on: September 16, 2019, 12:40:00 PM »
I never did drills. Then I relearned Engrosser's Script and started from the beginning with drills. Wow - what a difference. If you just start to try to draw an oval, you will not make a perfect oval. But you don't continue to make ugly ovals, you will develop the muscles to make nice ovals which in turn, help your letter forms.

My favorite drill is to see how many ovals I can make from one dip of the pen. The old masters used to be able to get 2,000 or more out of one dip! I thought, 'impossible!' But now I can almost do it!  ;D

Spencerian Script / Re: Spencerian on a pen tablet?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier!

Procreate seems to be the software of choice for calligraphy on an ipad. But for an android tablet, there are some similar apps. ArtRage and Adobe Photoshop Sketch are two I have read about but have not tried. Krita is another one that is free and is supposed to mimic natural drawing so may work for Spencerian.

I hope that helps!

P.S. If you search walnut from the home page, there are a bunch of threads about walnut ink. But this one has lots of good info!

Making your own Walnut Ink

That is a great question. I'm not sure the correct answer. DaVinci used real walnut ink which did fade over time (and deteriorate the paper).

Imagine does state that their walnut ink is archival which means it is meant to resist fading and weathering. They don't specifically mention if their crystals are any different though.

Norton's walnut ink is made with artist pigments so is also touted as lightfast and archival and acid free so it doesn't degrade the paper. Tsukineko walnut crystals also specify they are archival.

To be 100% sure, perhaps send a message to Imagine to double check if their crystals are archival like the walnut ink.  ;)

I used a Zebra G and it did not scratch it at all. I think over time, it may wear in some scratches but I still canít see any.

I ordered another one called Free Felt. I like that one even better. Itís a bit bigger and has a finer line.  ;D
