Color Blue Exchange
« on: July 16, 2014, 05:20:54 PM »
Please tell me if it's too soon after the summer exchange, but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in a calligraphy exchange with the color blue as the theme.  I was thinking the due date could be September 2nd.  I'm happy to organize.  The deadline for signing up will be Monday, July 28th.

I have to practice with Doc Martin's Tourquoise and its shades, so I'm definitely IN.
If you don't mind I take this opportunity for practicing of course ;)
Great idea Lindsay! Thanks for starting the thread.
Off with the email ^_^

Some people have asked me how exchanges work, so I thought I would post more information for the newbies.

If you've never done one of the Flourish Forum exchanges before, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much fun it is.  In past exchanges, people have sent a variety of things, including empty envelopes, postcards, or tiny treasures/gifts.  However, the vast majority of people send cards with a fun quote calligraphed, or a drawing, painting, photo, etc. that goes with the theme.  But in general, it's pretty much anything goes!  It is a very fun and exciting way to practice our craft or a new style or skill.

The only RULES are:
  • You must send something to everyone on your list.
  • Whatever you send must somehow involve calligraphy - ALL experience levels are welcome!
  • Your envelopes must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

I will likely divide the total people into smaller groups once the signup period closes on Monday, July 28th, because I think sending more than 10-12 cards is too much for most people.

If you have any questions, just let me know!   :D[/list]

Lyndsay,

I HATE blue!  Seriously!  Don't you know that red is the best color?!  I'd "play" if we were doing red!  I don't know what my thing is with blue, but I just dislike the heck out of it!  I can tolerate some shades (turquoise and royal blue, specifically).  And, I wear navy suits, but that's really just a "uniform" in my profession!  (And, I usually sneak in a red top or scarf when I'm in a navy suit!)  I thought we were going to be friends and then here you go picking my least favorite color! ;)

Just some clarifications on the theme:

The exchange is focused on the color blue, but how loosely or tightly anyone wants to interpret the theme should be a personal decision or intuition.  Some perfectly wonderful examples:
  • Someone thinks of the ocean when she thinks of the color blue, and her design involves other colors, like green seaweed, a purple octopus, and yellow and orange fish, in a blue sea.  Her quote or message is about the ocean or marine life.
  • A member has always wanted to try masking fluid with watercolors and uses the exchange as a great place to practice the technique with some blue watercolors.  Everything about the card and envelope are blue, and no other color is used.  The greeting is literally about the color blue.
  • Someone is super lucky and coincidentally has a pile of blue envelopes, paper, or card stock, or a container of blue ink that he has been wanting to get rid of.  He adds a song lyric about friendship that has nothing to do with the color blue.
  • A member wants to use the exchange as an opportunity to try out or compare various blue inks, or a different color ink on a blue background, and writes, "I hope you're having a great September!" as the greeting.

So really, anything goes!

Janis, do something fabulous in red then!!   ;)

Seriously, if someone really can't stand blue, then pick your favorite color, and surprise us!   :D
