Slantboard for under lightboard
« on: January 27, 2014, 12:06:23 AM »
I came across this while searching for some homeschooling ideas. This is ingenious... a photograph of a cardboard box lid cut to make a slantboard. You could put this under your flat lightboards!

See link below.  ;)

The link that Erica posted is broken, here is the new link.

And here is another design for a homemade slantboard.

I hope these help.

Love this! Have been wanting to try a slanted surface for ergonomic purposes, now I can! Thanks, Erica!

In what kind of shop is plexiglass sold? Is it easy to cut to size?

most frame shops sell plexiglas and can cut it to size.
it is easy to cut with a hand held electric saw - if you know how to use one
and have a suitable straight edge

it comes in different thicknesses, so, if you want a thicker piece, you might try a business that replaces windows.
also some of the sign shops make plexiglas signs and might have it in stock

Thanks Jean. Don't think there are easily accessible shops like that where I'm located. I'm going to try eBay or Amazon!

For a clear slant board, I use a kitchen, plexi-glass cutting board. It has a 1.5" over hang so it stays on the counter.
Here is the link for an image and cost:  http://www.improvementscatalog.com/acrylic-cutting-board-with-lip/13158
I use it with the over hang at the top so that it makes the surface slant. I can slide a small light under it. If I need the slant higher I use wood blocks. It has been great! I also take it to workshop. Sometimes there is enough natural lighting to give enough light for guidelines under my paper. Also, when the table are textured it is great to have flat for a smooth surface. Great investment!

Would a glass from an ikea picture frame work? I'm not sure if that's glass, or plexiglass, but it's something I can find around here!

Unscripted - I would not risk glass. Hardware stores should sell plexi-glass or an acrylic. I have had some cut to size to protect tables.
