New Category- Eastern Calligraphy
« on: February 24, 2017, 11:07:01 PM »
I would like to suggest a new category to the forum, Eastern Calligraphy. As a man of South Korean heritage, it has come to my attention that this forum pays little attention to the Eastern Calligraphy. In order attract more users of different cultures, I firmly believe that our forum should provide resources for other areas of Calligraphy. Dear Forum, please share your thoughts to my suggestion to start a new category, it would be wonderful to see our forum include the beautiful art of Eastern Calligraphy. Thank you. ???

Excellent idea: I'm all in favour.

Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew and Arabic also deserve a mention, so perhaps a catch all non-Latin category is an alternative as we already have a long list of specialist boards?

Yes, I would love to include such categories too. I believe that we should come up with more broader terms for this category.

It's a really broad category considering it includes two of the oldest continuously written languages, at least one of which, Chinese, considers calligraphy the highest art form

And Devanagari would be a nice inclusion also, as we have many from India who probably know it.

I like the idea of seeing/sharing other forms of Calligraphy. I started with Arabic Calligraphy and would love a place to share some of that. We can start with a broad catch-all category and then split it up depending on the amount of traffic/interest in different types.

I have an opinion and I'm not afraid to use it.

I'd love to see some of your Arabic work, Salman.

Me too! When my parents were teaching in Lahore some years ago, we visited and picked up some loose sheets of calligraphy from the visiting brass wallah. Most is probably 19th-century, but a few pages definitely looked older. I would love to learn more about the different styles. Kufic script has fascinated me ever since.

And I'd love to see some Korean calligraphy. I'm much more familiar with Chinese and Japanese, so another hole in my broad but shallow knowledge I look forward to filling.

@Myles Ink Calligraphy  - I am so sorry I didn't see this earlier! What a great suggestion. I have created the board and you can find it here: Eastern Calligraphy. I'm looking forward to seeing the shares!  :)
