Summer Exchange 2014
« on: May 31, 2014, 11:38:11 PM »
Yes, June 1st will be here in just a couple of minutes! While summer doesn't officially start here until the summer solstice on the 21st ... it is well underway already! Kids are out of school, days are hitting 90, and the shorts are on daily!  :) For those of you on the other side of the planet experiencing winter right now, you have my deepest sympathy! Maybe this little exchange will bring some sunshine to your mailbox!

Summer Exchange - any design/color focusing on summer - sunshine, beach days, boating, whatever says SUMMER to you!

Sign up deadline: Monday, June 16, 2014.

Mail deadline: Monday, July 14, 2014.

I love seeing all the great responses here but you must also Email your full name and mailing address by clicking on the envelope to the left under my picture.

Guidelines:

1. Although the cards do not have to be handmade, some kind of calligraphy should be used on either card or envelope.
2. You will send a card to every member on the list (if a large group signs up, I will break the list down into smaller groups).
3. Summer related theme.
4. All skill levels welcome!
5. If you end up not being able to participate, please contact me ASAP. If you don't send your cards after the list has gone out, you will not be able to participate in the next exchange.
6. HAVE FUN!

I think I will join in for this one to expand my horizons a bit. I have no idea how to make summer themed cards but I'm counting on inspiration to strike sometime in the next month or so :-)

Thank you for arranging this Erica - my email is on the way.

I am in!  And I think I will be sending winter-themed cards, and hopefully bringing a nice cool breeze to you all on the other side of the world while you swelter ;p

How many members usually join in? Trying to estimate if I'll be able to make it! I'd really love to join the exchange since I was a little too late for the Spring exchange!  :)

Count me in too... But I'm scared. My pen knows when it's important writing, and it WILL screw me over when it matters.

So true! I'm definitely not at the skill level of the others in the exchange, but I decided to get over it.  :) The exchange was a good challenge -- it forced me to mix gouache for the first time, for one! And I learned from seeing others' accomplished calligraphy up close and personal.

Totally my feeling Lori :) We won't improve without practice, right?

I *must* quote Chris/YokePenCo here when people said they're not good enough to enter his envelope contest:

I'm not trying to pressure, but I think anyone who says they are not good enough, you are mistaken. Looking at posts or Instagrams of everyone so far who has said something about not entering, YOU ARE MUCH BETTER THAN YOU GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT FOR!. Yes I used all caps :P

Do not be embarrassed by anything you do, no matter how good or how much room you have for improvement at anything in life...

There will ALWAYS be someone better!!

It is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about, we are all human, we all make mistakes, we all have room for improvement. It is part of life, I ask anyone not entering to reconsider, as I think you won't regret it! Most of all it is all in fun and the more entries we have the more fun and interesting it will be!

“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained in sudden flight but, they while their companions slept, they were toiling upwards in the night.” ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The list is usually around 10 - 12 people. We already have 11 so far. If there are more than 12, I will consider splitting the list into two. However, people get bummed if we split the list because they want to receive from everyone on the list (who doesnt'?!)  ;D

Also, you must email me in order to sign up.  :D
